Refugee Youth Program Internship- International Rescue Committee
Position: Refugee Youth Program Intern
Location: New York Resettlement Office- 263 West 38th St, New York, NY 

Background: Since its inception in 1999, the Refugee Youth Program has developed partnerships with New York City public schools, community-based organizations and local colleges and universities to provide refugee youth with year-round academic support, literacy training, and enrichment activities. The Refugee Youth Program enables refugee and immigrant youth to participate in comprehensive after school programs that provide English language training, academic support, and additional culturally and linguistically appropriate learning activities.

Scope of Work: The Refugee Youth Program Intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator to assure ongoing program operations. The Refugee Youth Program Intern will provide administrative, programming and logistical support to the overall Refugee Youth Program; assisting in data collection and management, program planning, monitoring and evaluation, as well as research projects where necessary. There will also be opportunity for the intern to participate in on site coordination and direct service with Refugee Youth such as tutoring and leadership training. This person will have a role in the planning of the Refugee Youth Summer Academy

Essential Position Functions
  • Assist in the maintenance and update of the Program information database
  • Assist Program Supervisor with the development and implementation of program monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Research, compile and distribute resources and information regarding refugee youth program to volunteer and mentor staff and program partners
  • Maintain and update records of volunteer and mentor staff 
  • Participate in logistical planning for the Refugee Youth Summer Academy
  • On site coordination and direct service with Refugee Youth as needed/desired
  • Aid in volunteer coordination as needed
  • Other special projects as assigned
  • Adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies
Requirements
  • College level student or above with an interest in youth development, education, international development or other related fields
  • Ability to commit to 2 - 3 days each week. Days and time commitments to be determined between intern and Youth Program Supervisor.
  • Reliable and flexible
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work in culturally diverse setting
  • Participate in an IRC Youth Program Orientation and Training
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations highly desirable
  • Experience working with youth populations highly desirable
  • Strong written and oral English skills; additional fluency in a second language preferred (Nepali, Tibetan, Arabic, French, Burmese or Karen)
