Internship: ICT Programs

General Function
The Internews ICT Initiative is currently seeking a summer intern. The intern will assist with logistical research and administrative support for ICT Programs. She/he will have the opportunity to gain experience in program administration, grant management, and Internews’ work to foster independent media and access to information worldwide. This paid internship position will report to the Director for ICT Programs.

Internship: Internet Access Project



Location: Washington DC, USA

Description

GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the Internet Access Project Director, the Intern will help produce the Global Digital Download, a weekly publication that highlights trends in digital and social media that intersect with freedom of expression, privacy, policy and censorship.
Ideal candidates are undergraduate students with an interest in internet freedom, policy and international development.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor and aggregate news, research and events related to online freedom of expression, privacy, policy and censorship.
  • Help maintain the Global Digital Download webpage on the Internews website.
  • Distribute weekly Global Digital Download newsletter to Internews staff, partners and other subscribers.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent analytical and research skills
  • Proven organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Proven time management skills, with ability to consistently meet strict deadlines
PREFERRED
  • Background in internet freedom, media development, political science, international relations or communications.
  • Experience with website editing; knowledge of Drupal preferred.
 
LEVEL OF EFFORT: 10-20 hours/week

Internship: Africa, Health, and Humanitarian Media



Location: Washington DC, USA

Description


The Internews Network Africa, Health and Humanitarian Media Unit is currently hiring for a fall semester intern. The selected candidate would need to be available 2-3 days a week.  This is an unpaid position based in the Washington, D.C. office and will provide the intern with an opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge and experience with overseas development projects, media development and data analysis.

Responsibilities include:
  • Working with the Senior Program Associate to organize the logistics for two conferences hosted by the Africa Health and Humanitarian Unit,
  • Draft regional and country specific flyers for all country programs in the Africa, Health and Humanitarian unit,
  • Compile monthly country program updates,
  • Working with project staff in the field to create a bank of success stories.
Other duties may include:
  • Researching and reporting on the media environment in specific countries/regions
  • Assisting with copy editing of reports and proposals and other administrative duties as assigned.
 
Required Skills:
  • BA in related field
  • Advanced level in French
  • Strong Microsoft office skills
  • The ability to multi-task and work on projects independently.

The Internews Asia and Environment unit is currently seeking a spring semester intern. The selected candidate would need to be available 2-3 days a week.  This is an unpaid position based in the Washington, D.C. office and will provide the intern with an opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge and experience with overseas development projects, media development and data analysis.

Responsibilities include:
  • Draft regional and country specific flyers for all country programs in the Asia and Environment unit,
  • Compile monthly country program updates,
  • Working with project staff in the field to create a bank of success stories,
  • Research potentially new project initiatives,
  • Researching and reporting on the media environment in specific countries/regions,
  • Assisting with copy editing of reports and proposals and other administrative duties as assigned.

Internship: Crowdmapping - Center for Innovation and Learning



Location: Washington DC, USA

he Internews Center for Innovation and Learning  is currently seeking a spring semester intern (April 15th to June 15th) and a summer intern (June 15th to August 15th). The selected candidates would need to be available 2-3 days a week.  This is an unpaid position that can be based in the Washington, D.C. office or remotely, and will provide the interns with an opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge and experience with overseas crowdsourcing projects, crowdsourced mapping and data analysis.


Responsibilities include:
·        Maintain and update the Center’s website Crowdglobe.net
·        Search for on going crowdsourcing mapping projects online and review them
·        Compile monthly updates on new projects and interesting issues related to crowdsourced mapping
·        Collect and review academic research studies on crowdsourced mapping
·        Research potentially new project initiatives in the field of crowdsourced mapping
·        Research and aggregate blogs, media articles, reports and other documentation on crowdsourced mapping
·        Write monthly blog posts on crowdsourced mapping to be published in the Internews Center for Innovation and Learning website
Qualifications:
·        BA in related field
·        Strong Microsoft office skills
·        The ability to multi-task and work on projects independently
·        Interest and passion on crowdsourced mapping and crowdsourcing in general
·        Knowledge of the topic

Internship: Communications and President's Office



Location: Washington DC, USA


Description:
The Internews Communications Department and Office of the President are currently hiring for a summer intern to work with both departments. The selected candidate would need to be available 2-3 days a week.  This is an unpaid position based in the Washington, D.C. office and will provide the intern with an opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge and experience with internal and external organizational communications, overseas development projects, and media development.

Responsibilities include:
·        Working with the Senior Program Associates to organize the logistics for large reception event.
·        Assist in maintaining the organization’s database of contacts, as well as data entry when necessary.
·        Assist in maintaining the organization’s internal knowledge management database.
·        Compile monthly department updates and quarterly reports.
·        Help maintain Internews’ social media presence.
Other duties may include:
·        Researching and reporting on the media environment in specific countries/regions
·        Supporting and/or managing Senior Management travel and itineraries
·        Administrative and accounting support
·        Assisting with copy editing of reports and articles and other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
·        Ideal candidate will be undergraduate with interest in communications/media and international development.
·        Strong Microsoft Office skills.
·        Experience with various social media platforms.
·        Experience with Salesforce preferred.
·        The ability to multi-task and work on projects independently.
·        Excellent communication and writing skills. Attention to detail.
