Position Title: Intern
Department: Africa
Reports to: Regional Program Director/Deputy Director
Location: Washington, DC
Salary: $10/hr
A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, the International
Republican Institute (IRI) advances freedom and democracy worldwide by
developing political parties, civic institutions, open elections, good
governance and the rule of law. IRI has conducted programs in more than 100
counties and is currently active in 65 countries.
Responsibilities:
· Assist staff with
program activities, events and training missions.
· Provide
administrative support.
· Provide back-up
for the receptionist as needed.
· Conduct research
on a variety of topics for briefing papers, program proposals and reports.
· Attend meetings,
conferences, seminars.
· Perform other
duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
· Excellent verbal
and written skills in English.
· Strong
organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to
organize time, manage diverse activities and meet deadlines.
· Flexibility to
changing situations and priorities.
Desired Skills:
· Relevant studies
and knowledge of French preferred.
· Demonstrated
knowledge of democracy, governance, and political economy in sub-Saharan Africa
· Demonstrated
experience in MS Office, Word and Excel, Power Point desirable.
