Position Summary
Futures’ seeks an Intern to implement a combination of
activities related to South Africa based projects. Specific responsibilities
include:
Technical Input and Coordination:
- Compile
materials on HIV combination prevention, as needed and as directed by
the Intern supervisor, Chief of Party and/or Center Director;
- Conduct
analysis of mentions of combination HIV prevention on social media,
specifically during the time of the International AIDS conference to
understand priority discussion issues;
- Support
the blogging and coordination efforts for the Futures Group presence at
the International AIDS Conference;
- Remain
up-to-date with developments and trends in international development,
specifically those in South Africa, attending sector-related meetings,
and sharing highlights with team;
- Contribute
to writing/editing of end of project materials (briefs, reports, etc.)
if/as needed;
- Assist
with editing and formatting papers and power point presentations for
meetings (including end-of-project meeting) on an as needed basis;
- Implement
legwork on compilation and organization of documents for e-toolkits;
- Design
and upload e-toolkit for combination prevention, per guidance from the
communications coordinator and South Africa based Quality Assurance
team;
- Present
experience of internship during an internal brown bag lunch; and
- Perform
other duties as requested.
Communications/Sharing events:
- Support
Quality Assurance/Knowledge Management team in the planning and
coordination to heighten the internal and external visibility of the
South Africa based projects:
- This
will include the development of a Brown Bag Lunch schedule (for
multiple office locations) with SHIPP and RMCH teams;
- Support
the Director, Strategic Initiatives in the planning and coordination of
a sharing platform for the DFID-funded Reproductive Health project directors
to share lessons learned and be in contact with each other;
- Maintain
list of conferences related to health systems, coordinate deadline
reminders and staff submissions;
- Capture
conference materials and BBL presentations and maintain storage location
on central system;
- Compile,
review, and synthesize SHIPP success stories by country and by
theme for posting on Futures website;
- Develop
platform for Center for Program Science blog
- Work
with Center Director to identify first blog entries and writers
- Work
with writers to edit, etc.
- Research
ways to share information, internally and externally:
- This
should include the exploration of the use of a wiki as a platform to
share information.
Operations:
- Per
guidance from the Operations Manager, support the implementation of
contract close-out activities, which may include contracts tracking,
preparing close-out letters and/or contract modifications.
Qualifications and Experience

|
- Master’s
degree candidate in international affairs, public administration,
public policy, public policy, or related field;
- Minimum
of 2 years of work experience;
- Experience
with qualitative and quantitative research;
- Demonstrated
experience in analyzing, interpreting, and communicating results;
- Demonstrated
capacity to coordinate and implement activities;
- Strong
customer service ethos and proactive approach to service provision, as
well as the ability to organize partnerships and maintain good
relations with colleagues;
- Excellent
interpersonal, leadership and negotiating skills;
- Excellent
analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent
ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in
writing.
- Microsoft
Sharepoint experience a plus; and
- Demonstrated
knowledge of South Africa a plus.

Travel should not be expected for this internship.
Work will be completed in the Washington, DC office with regular
communication with field-based teams.
