Main purpose of the position
Assist ICARDA senior rangeland scientist, in implementation of
projects
related to CRP1.1 (Integrated
Agricultural Production Systems for the Poor and Vulnerable
in Dry Areas) and CRP7 (Climate Change, Agriculture and
Food Security (CCAFS)).

Main responsibilities
· Undertake research and development programs aimed at
improving rangeland in the
dry areas through community - based natural resources management
approach;
· Analyze data and publish scientific findings in ISI
peer-reviewed journals;
· Provide training in the area of community-based rangeland
rehabilitation and
management;
· Conduct baseline studies in the region to document the
pastoral and agro-pastorals’
indigenous knowledge on sustainable integrated natural resources
management;
· Contribute to the assessments of ecological impacts such
as impact of climate change
on rangelands;
· Contribute to the screening and dissemination of stress
tolerant range and forage
species;
· Analyze data and publish scientific findings in high
impact ISI journals;
· Contribute to institutional capacity building of national
partners through training,
supervision and technical backstopping.
· Perform other duties assigned by the senior rangeland
scientist.
Education, qualifications and experience
· A recent PhD in landscape ecology (preferably ecological modeling),
rangeland ecology
and management or a related subject;
· Proven experience in field-based research, rangeland
monitoring and assessment and
plant taxonomy;
· Knowledge of, and experience in, participatory and
community-based approaches to
research-for-development;
· Good knowledge of experimental design and statistical
analysis;
· Experience in GIS and remote sensing tools is necessary;
· Excellent communication in English;
· Good inter-personal skills and proven experience working
in a multi-disciplinary and
multicultural teams;
· Great flexibility/adaptability and positive attitude with
great time management abilities.
