  • The ability to understand and solve legal problems.

About the internship
The Legal Intern will work as part of the Legal & Governance Team at Plan’s International Headquarters, based in Woking, Surrey. The Legal Intern will work directly with members of the Legal & Governance Team as well as with other staff from across Plan globally. The internship will last ideally for a period of 3 months.
The purpose of the internship is to give lawyers with an interest in international development some experience of working in a global development organisation focussed on children’s rights. 
As a legal intern at Plan, you will:
  • Work on a wide variety of matters and legal areas, ranging from general commercial law to corporate governance and law relating to global non-for-profit organisations;
  • Enjoy a flexible and interesting workload; and
  • Experience life as an in-house lawyer in the international development sector.
Normal office hours are 9 -5pm Monday to Friday.
Examples of tasks/projects undertaken by previous legal interns include:
  • Commercial contracts – reviewing/drafting/negotiating commercial contracts, partnership/collaboration arrangements, IT contracts etc.;
  • Legal input to programmatic development work;
  • Employment matters – researching/advising on employment issues;
  • IP matters – reviewing/advising on trademark issues; and
  • Governance – reviewing/amending bylaws, liaising with external legal counselon US non-for-profit issues.
This is a voluntary position and will not lead to an offer of paid or permanent work on completion, however reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed.
