The BARKA Foundation (BARKA) is a non-profit organisation registered in Massachusetts and Burkina Faso. BARKA works to enable achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals in Burkina Faso, West Africa through the improvement of clean water accessibility; sanitation; irrigation; sustainable agriculture; women's empowerment; education; and healthcare. BARKA aims to develop a new paradigm of development by combining indigenous and modern technologies to arrive at low-cost, high-impact, sustainable development that is culturally appropriate and managed by the beneficiaries themselves. Finally, BARKA seeks to create long-term relationships of reciprocity between communities in Burkina Faso and the developed world. In the US this has led to a linking of schools, businesses and other groups with their counterparts in Burkina Faso for the mutual benefit and value of all involved.
BARKA is currently looking for enthusiastic and qualified individuals who are personally committed to the non-profit sector and grassroots development in West Africa to serve as trustees to form a UK branch of the organization. BARKA Foundation is a UN-affiliated NGO. It seeks to establish a Board of Trustees in the UK to enable growth in Europe and the UK. Trustees would be required to help BARKA’s UK branch register as a UK charity with its own governing documents and finances independent of BARKA Foundation (US); direct BARKA UK’s development and long-term strategy; ensure good corporate governance; and review financial management within the UK branch. We are looking for trustees with strong legal skills and an interest in international development who are willing to volunteer time and invest in the organisation as it establishes itself in the UK.  Initial term is for 1 year and is renewable.
All applicants must reside in the UK and speak English.
