Department Description
The New System Tester Equipment Design Department. 
This department is responsible for the design, development and deployment of systems test equipment for the Stockpile Surveillance Program.  The designers develop product test solutions through innovative approaches to data acquisition and control for the Department of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories. Our product consists of the complete design and implementation of test systems including electrical hardware, mechanical hardware, software, and documentation. The test equipment developed by this department is used to conduct Stockpile Laboratory Tests at the Weapons Evaluation Test Laboratory (WETL).

Job Summary
Performs entry-level work within a science and engineering environment involving assignments that may include assisting with research, application of project design and diagnostics, testing and documentation, development and analysis of technology options, and assembly and troubleshooting.

Primary Job Duties
Job assignments vary upon organization, discipline preference, and specific job requirements as defined in the job specification.
Duties may include assisting technical staff with developmental research, analysis of technology and engineering options, project design, testing, formulating conclusions, data collection, and analyzing experimental data.

Job specifications

An opportunity exists for a variety of information systems development activities including system administration, web interface development, systems programming, report generation, database interfacing, and networking.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
General knowledge of technical principles and processes.
Understanding of the use a variety of research tools.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to contribute in a team environment.
General knowledge of project management.
General knowledge and good understanding of a suite of software, including Microsoft Office.

Required
The successful candidate must meet the following Sandia Student Intern Requirements: Official acceptance into an accredited university's undergraduate program, full-time enrollment (12 credit hours), a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2/4.0, the ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. U.S. citizenship.

Knowledge of Linux and database concepts; Ability to read and execute software test plans; Ability to read and understand electrical and/or mechanical drawings.
Desired
Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field.

Systems Knowledge (UNIX) System programming (Java, Perl, eclipse) ; Web Programming (Java, PHP, HTML, CGI, Javascript, JSF); Database programming (SQL, MySQL); Experience with electrical or mechanical documentation.

Security Clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
