PSI seeks candidates for the position of Research Intern to
support the Research Department starting in January 2014. Research is the
source for PSI's evidence-based decision-making. PSI uses data to monitor and
evaluate its programs; estimate the health impact of specific interventions;
assess value for money
and improve intervention cost-effectiveness; and
evaluate the health of the markets PSI works to strengthen. For more

The Research Intern position requires flexibility and
willingness to assume varied duties and projects. This internship position is
based in Washington, D.C. and reports to the Research Assistant. This is a paid
full-time position, open for a 3 month contract with the possibility of
extending based on performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Research intern will support researchers to meet their
Strategic Plan objectives by helping to create tools and resources for PSI’s
staff worldwide. He/she will also assist with literature searches, papers,
conferences, studies, reports, the monthly newsletter and various
administrative tasks.
The ideal candidate will have keen attention to detail,
excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven problem solving
abilities, and strong computer skills. It is essential that he/she be able to
prioritize and perform multiple tasks, while working with minimal supervision
and following through on assignments. Preference will be given to candidates
with a demonstrated interested in international health and development issues.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct literature searches and write summaries
- Write and compile international communications, including the department’s monthly newsletter
- Design pages and tools for the department’s intranet
- Post to, organize and maintain the Publications Catalogue on psi.org
- Maintain the archive of PSI journal articles
- Manage the department library and rotating displays
- Provide support to the Research Assistant with training and communications about new tools and processes (eg. Podio, Dataverse, Conferences Strategy)
- Edit, format and archive reports and briefs with great attention to detail; and prepare materials to be published on the web
- Create tables and charts to summarize survey data
- Some administrative duties as required such as taking minutes, maintaining calendars, printing and mailing reports, event and schedule planning, assembling materials for meetings and trainings, and assisting with the enforcement of the Space and Telecommuting Policy
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate student majoring in International Development, Public Health, Communications, Marketing, or other related degree
- Research experience using the Internet and academic journal databases
- High proficiency in computer applications: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to summarize research findings
- Creativity, ability to brainstorm and problem-solve
- Excellent analytical and writing skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Experience using PubMed preferred, but not required
- Experience with ConstantContact, Camtasia, Photoshop and/or HTML preferred, but not required
- French, Spanish, or Portuguese a plus
