Impact Assessment Postdoc

The Impact Assessment Postdoc will support CCAFS and the Ecosystem Services Research Theme of DAPA on Impact Assessment analysis (including outcome analysis and reporting).This position will be supervised by the Impact Assessment team of DAPA and the Climate Change and Ecosystem Services Research Leaders.

The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (www.ciat.cgiar.org) works to reduce hunger and poverty, and improve human health in the tropics through research aimed at increasing the eco-efficiency of agriculture. CIAT is a member of the CGIAR Consortium (www,cigar.org), a global research partnership working many partners for a food secure future. The Center’s research focuses on improving key crops (cassava, common bean, rice and tropical forages); reversing soil and land degradation; and using information to foster better decisions about issues such as climate change and environmental management. Headquartered near Cali, Colombia, CIAT has regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya, and Hanoi, Vietnam, with staff posted in other developing countries as well.
The Impact Assessment Postdoc will support CCAFS and the Ecosystem Services Research Theme of DAPA on Impact Assessment analysis (including outcome analysis and reporting). This position will be supervised by the Impact Assessment team of DAPA and the Climate Change and Ecosystem Services Research Leaders.

 Responsibilities:
  • To engage in the documentation of research and development outcomes and impacts of CIAT, /especially CCAFS and ESRT technological and policy interventions.
  • To lead the design and implementation of innovative methodologies to assess outcomes and impacts and for monitoring and evaluation of CCAFS and ESRT research interventions.
  • To design and implement methods to conduct ex-ante and ex-post impact assessment of land use/management practices changes considering environmental, social and economic trade-offs.
  • To work with different CCAFS partners in harmonizing protocols and methods for conducting impact and outcome assessment across CCAFS.
  • To publish research findings in peer review journals, policy briefs and other documents to communicate research findings and to influence different policy markers.
  • To keep permanent communication with CIAT partners and key policy makers in Peru in order to ensure the research outputs are considered in policy making processes.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Resource, Environmental, Agricultural or Development Economics.
  • Experience in implementing rigorous impact assessment studies and functioning monitoring and evaluation systems related to agriculture and/or natural resource management.
  • Excellent command of econometrics and other quantitative methods relevant for impact assessment.
  • Experience in implementing large surveys and other data collection exercises.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and experience in working with projects with diverse stakeholders.
Terms of employment
The position is internationally recruited and based at CIAT Offices in Peru. The initial contract will be for two (2) years, subject to a probation period of three (3) months, and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
