EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN
Mlolongo, Nairobi 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: This project is organised in support of Children's Rehabilitation Home in Mlolongo Township. The home was established in 2002 with the aim to rehabilitate 38 destitute children. With support of local churches, individuals, donors and organizations, the project has continued to pursue its objectives of providing parental care, quality education and health services to orphans and vulnerable children. Since its inception, the home has experienced remarkable growth and is currently supporting 120 children. Children in the home are provided not only with food and shelter, but also with significant emotional and spiritual support, education and guidance. We need motivated volunteers to assist in the primary school and in the orphanage.

Orientation will be provided for the volunteers to present the objectives and expectations of the program. The volunteers will work with the children, teaching English, Math, Social Science, singing, drawing and making crafts, helping them with their homework, counseling.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Visit to Namanga, cultural exchange, excursions.

Special requirements: No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as early childhood education, teaching math, sciences, tutoring) will be used accordingly. Volunteers are expected to love kids and be motivated to spend time with them.

SUPPORT FOR HIV/AIDS ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN
Machakos, Eastern province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: The project is organized together with the Children's Home in Machakos. The Home was started in 2006 to help orphans and vulnerable children in Machakos and Mbooni districts whose parents were affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty. The home currently houses girls only but also helps boys in terms of providing education. We would like to show these children that people do care for them and give them hope through education and Christian upbringing.

During the initial orientation, the objectives and expectations of the program will be presented to the volunteers. The volunteers will be involved in taking care of the kids, including activities such as teaching them the alphabet and numbers, singing, drawing and making crafts, assisting in daily work, counseling. The volunteers may also assist in some construction activities.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Excursions to “Kyamwilu” (The area has an anti-gravity phenomenon that is still a mystery. Water poured flows upstream, a car if left free will move uphill due to this force.), Satellite, “Wanyavu” (where wood carving is done). The trips are done during the weekends.

Special requirements: No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as early childhood education, teaching math, English, sciences, tutoring) will be used accordingly. TEACHING AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN IN MOMBASA
Mombasa, Coast province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: The volunteer project is organised together with the School for mentally handicapped children in Mombasa since 2007. The mission of the school is to rehabilitate mentally handicapped children through various activities and to enable them to lead a normal life. We want to appreciate the mentally challenged kids as part of our society and show them love.
The school is a public mixed special day school and boarding house. The land for the school was allocated by the Kenyan Government. It is managed by a board of governors from the Ministry of Education and members of the municipal council.
The students are from 6 to 24 years old. They follow the special education curriculum as specified by the Kenya Institute of Education. The following trainings are offered: sense training, social training, communication, language, number work, reading, art and craft, music/dance, physical education and service to the school.

The international volunteers will attend an orientation about the objectives and expectations of the program. In the school, the volunteers will be involved in various teaching activities, including assisting the teachers in sense training, communication, number work, reading, organizing games and art lessons.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Excursion to Haller and beaches. Visits are done during the weekends.

Special requirements: Volunteers with physiotherapy and teaching skills are needed; preferably a physiotherapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, or a teacher. However, we have an open policy and applicants with other experience and ideas to share are also welcome to apply and will be considered. The volunteers should be able and motivated to work with differently abled people, including mentally disabled.

ORPHAN EDUCATION AND CARE PROGRAM IN THE RIFT VALLEY
Nakuru, Rift Valley province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: The volunteer project is organized together with a Home for Children in Nakuru. The Home currently houses about 150 children, most of whom have lost their parents to AIDS, other have been abandoned in hospitals or recovered from the streets. The Home's main objective is to rehabilitate the children and ensure their safety and welfare. In the home, the children receive love, care, education and religious upbringing. The ages of the children range from infants to 18 year-old.

Orientation will be conducted for the volunteers to understand the objectives and expectations of the program. The volunteers will be involved in teaching number work and reading, assisting the social worker in counseling, help with cleaning and cooking, organizing games and art lessons, and playing with the kids.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Excursion to Mt Longonot, visit to Lake Nakuru National park during the weekends.

EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ORPHANS IN KISUMU
Kisumu, Nyanza province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: This volunteer project is organized since 2009 to support an Orphanage in Nyanza province. The orphanage provides a loving and safe home for orphaned, neglected and abandoned street children. It is based in Kisumu which is the third largest city in Kenya. Kisumu has a population of approximately 300,000 and is located on Lake Victoria almost on the Ugandan border. In Kisumu, there are many orphans who, without help, would have no future. The Orphanage is a home to about 130 orphans who lost their parents (usually to AIDS) and street children from the slums. There are primarily boys, due to the "preference" for girls as household labor help, and the difficulty for boys to stay at home if their mother marries someone other than their father. At the orphanage they are loved and cared for well, but the need is still so great. We are seeking volunteers to assist in the Primary School, Secondary School, farm and at the orphanage.

The project will start with an orientation for the participants. During the project, the volunteers will be involved in various educational activities with the children, such as teaching English, Math, Social Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, singing, drawing and making crafts, helping them with their homework, counseling. The volunteers will receive guidance from the teachers.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

RECREATION THERAPY AND EDUCATION FOR DISABLED MAASAI CHILDREN
Kajiado, Rift Valley province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: Volunteers in this project will support a Children's Care Center in rural southern Kenya. The Center houses orphans and children with disabilities of the Maasai community and provides them with education, therapy and life skills training. Their mission is to assist physically and mentally handicapped children and to enable them to lead a normal life. We want to demonstrate appreciation, love and compassion for the mentally and physically challenged children. Motivated volunteers are needed to help the center in its mission.

An orientation will present the objectives and expectations of the program. The volunteers will support the educational and rehabilitation programs in the center by teaching, providing physio and speech therapy activities, assisting the teachers in sense training, organizing games and art lessons, offering life skills sessions, counseling and communication.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Possible visits during the weekend to Namanga (Kenya - Tanzania border), Arusha in Tanzania, and Bulls Eye Club, where the volunteers can swim and relax.

Qualifications: No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as physiotherapy, speech and occupational therapy) will be used accordingly. If you like arts and social activities, this is the place to be. Volunteers must be motivated to work with people with disabilities.

Kwale, Coast province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: International volunteers are invited to the small town of Kwale in the Coast province of Kenya, not far from Mombasa. In Kwale, the volunteers will work with autistic children and children with cerebral palsy.

Orientation will be conducted for the volunteers to understand the objectives and expectations of the program. The volunteers will be involved in various activities with the children, which involves assisting the teachers in classes, playing with the kids, physio and speech therapy exercises, organizing games and art lessons.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Excursions to Mwalungaje elephant sanctuary and Diani beach. The trips are done during the weekends.

TEACHING DEAF AND BLIND CHILDREN IN KWALE
Kwale, Coast province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: The volunteer program is organised together with a school for deaf children in Kwale since 2009. The school offers formal learning to hearing impaired learners and they have a small unit for blind children. The school was established in 1968 as a unit and later upgraded into a fully-fledged boarding institution. The school has 17 fully trained teachers from the Kenya Institute of Special Education. The students have various degrees of hearing loss ranging from mild to profound. The school recently received a diagnostic audiometer.

Orientation will be conducted for the volunteers to understand the objectives and expectations of the program. Volunteers will be involved in various teaching activities such as assisting the teachers in teaching sign language, playing with the kids, speech therapy, organizing games and art lessons, teaching blind students.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Excursion to Mwalungaje elephant sanctuary and beaches during the weekends.

Kitui, Eastern province 3 months

Volunteer project: The program is organized together with the Primary School in Kitui since 2007. The school offers formal education to primary school students of Kitui area. The school is under the District Education Board and it serves children of all races. Currently the school has 25 classes and a Special Unit for the Blind. We aim to encourage the students to value education, mentor them, and demonstrate the power of voluntary service.

The volunteers will have an orientation in the beginning of the program to understand the objectives and expectations. The volunteers will be supporting the teachers in the school by teaching English, Math, Social sciences, Physical education, also tutoring the students, as well as counseling them. Guidance will be given to the volunteers by the teachers.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Visiting “Nzambani” rocks and “Syomasango” resort during the weekends.

Location: Kitui is located in the Eastern part of Kenya, approximately 2.5 hours drive from Nairobi. Public transport is available. The closest Hospital, Markets, Post Office, Banks (ATMs), Internet and other social facilities are located in Kitui, 2 kilometers from the project site. The terrain is flat. The area is dry and hot.
There's also beautiful sceneries around Kitui, like “Nzambani” Rocks (5 km from Kitui center) and “SyomaSango” resort (6 km from Kitui center).

Akamba is the ethnic tribe residing in this area. Kiswahili and Kamba are the most spoken languages within the area. The majority of the people are not educated, including old and young. Kiswahili, English and Kamba are spoken in the central business area and Government offices and are popular among the young professionals.

Economically, the Kamba people are low-income farmers and the rate of poverty is high because of lack of education, cultural and traditional beliefs, unfavorable climatic conditions and poor infrastructure. Socially, Kamba people are good, friendly and accommodative. There are other tribes within the area like Kikuyu, Embu, Meru, etc. Christianity and Islam are the predominant practiced religions in this area.

EMPOWER KENYAN ORPHANS THROUGH EDUCATION AND COUNSELLING
Mombasa, Coast province 3 months

Volunteer project: In this project, volunteers will support a Children's Welfare Centre in Mombasa. The centre was founded in 2007 with the aim to cater for the orphans residing near Kadzandani in Bamburi location. The centre is young and understaffed, and sometimes students have to share classes. International volunteers are invited to support the centre in terms of provision of teaching services, fundraising activities and counseling services. There are a lot of kids in this area who are forced into early marriages, child prostitution and drug abuse. The centre is working hard to see these kids are going to school and being counselled.

The volunteers will be involved in supporting the teachers in the centre, which involves teaching English, Math, Social sciences, Physical education, also tutoring the students, as well as counselling them. Guidance will be given to the volunteers by the teachers.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Kajiado, Rift Valley province 3 months

Volunteer project: This Secondary School in Rift Valley province, Kajiado District was started by the area member of parliament through the constituency development fund. It is a mixed day school and boarding house. The school offers formal education to secondary school students of Kajiado area. International volunteers are invited to support the educational program of the school by teaching and sharing their experiences and skills with the students. The aim is to encourage the students to value education, mentor them, and demonstrate the power of voluntary service.

The volunteers will be assisting the teachers in teaching English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical education, also tutoring and counseling the students. The school teachers will guide the volunteers.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Possible visits during the weekend to Namanga (Kenya –Tanzania border), Elangata – Wuas eco-system and Bulls Eye Club, where the volunteers can swim.

Volunteer project: This volunteer project aims to support a High school in Coast province, Taita Taveta District. The school was started in 1989 by the community and later on the Government took over. It is a mixed school for boys and girls, with boarding facilities for boys only. The school offers formal education to secondary school students of the Msau area. The mission of the School is to provide quality education to the students for a better tomorrow and their goal is to make the institution a centre of academic excellence.

The volunteers will support the school teachers by teaching English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Information Technology and organising extra-curricular activities such as Drama, Theatre, Music and discussions on environmental issues. The volunteers will be also tutoring the students and counseling them. The teachers will guide the volunteers through the project.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Excursion to Taita Hills, visiting the local beaches in Mombasa during the weekends.

PROVIDING ASSISTANCE FOR PATIENTS AND STAFF AT A HOSPITAL IN KISUMU
Kisumu, Nyanza province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: The project is organized together with a hospital in Kisumu city in Nyanza Province. Orientation will be conducted for the volunteers to understand the objectives and expectations of the program.

Volunteers will be involved in most areas of the hospital, which involves working in different departments such as Pharmacy, Laboratory, Pediatric, General, HIV/AIDS, Morgue. The volunteers will be supervised/guided by the doctors and clinical officers. Other duties will be counseling patients, feeding patients, therapy, giving health talks, Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT).

Note: All these duties will be directed by the hospital medical superintendent.
All volunteers are also required to bring a letter of approval from the Ministry of Health or a University in their country. (Applicants working in the health care system are requested to provide a letter/certificate from any health or regional authority stating that they are qualified to practice. For students, a letter from their School of medicine, public health, nursing and allied health professions will be required.)

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Volunteer project: Volunteers are needed in Nyahera Health Centre, located in the small town Nyahera, not far from Kisumu city in Nyanza Province.

Location: Nyahera Health Centre is situated in Kisumu North Location, Nyahera Sub Location, Kodawo Urudi, approximately 15 km from Kisumu city center and approximately 350 km from Nairobi. Nyahera borders 2 provinces: Rift Valley province – Kapsabet district and Western province – Vihiga district. The region is hot during the day, temperatures sometimes rising to 28°–30°C. At night it can be cold, temperatures falling to 15°–20°C.
Nyahera is a small town, not very well developed but it has electricity, telephone lines and piped water, although not in all houses. The nearest shopping, cyber cafés, schools, Post office, clubs, ATM, are in Kisumu City. However, there is a nearby church, a local health center and the nearest market Kibwosa is 45 minutes walk or 5 minutes drive. Lake Victoria which is situated in this area (Kisumu), offers spectacular view and variety of exciting games like surfing and fishing.
The Luo people or the "Lake People" have rich and strong tradition and cultural belief and their staple food is “Ugali” and fish.

Kiswahili and Luo are the most spoken languages within the area; if you go further to the villages, Luo is commonly spoken. Majority of the people are not educated, especially the older people. Kiswahili and English are spoken in the central business area and Government offices, and are popular among the young professionals.

Kisumu city has an estimated population of 300,000, most of them with certain education level, therefore making it easier to teach basic life saving skills and sorting out ways of fighting poverty within the area. The area has rich cultivation grounds, but sometimes faces acute water shortages that can be controlled if proper storage facilities are constructed and put in use.
Economically the Luos are fishermen and farmers, but the rate of poverty is high because of lack of water distribution.

Volunteer project: The project is in support of a local NGO conceived in 1992 and born in 1993 out of the realization by leading reformists that the re-introduction of multi-party politics though a huge step in the political reform process, was not sufficient for the entrenchment of democratic governance.
This came in the wake of the flawed multi-party general elections of 1992, which brought to the fore the absence of a democratic culture, and weak governance institutions as the principal obstacles to the realization of democracy and respect for human rights.

The volunteers will be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of the institution to ensure efficient performance of the organization operation. Volunteers' duties include: Policy formulation, Creating awareness on roles of MPs and Councilors, Reform advocacy, Accountability project and Parliamentary support project.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

PEACE BUILDING AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION IN NAKURU
Nakuru, Rift Valley province

Volunteer project: This association for Conflict Resolution was founded in 1997 as a non-partisan, non-profit making, non-governmental organization. The association was founded out of the concern that the intermittent conflicts that were rocking various parts of the country, specifically Rift Valley, would obliterate the whole society.
This prompted the establishment of the association to provide an alternative way of dispute handling. Through Conflict Resolution Education, the association has been a strong advocate of the revitalization or re-discovery of the Traditional African Principles of Conflict Resolution. This is fortified by the fact that these mechanisms are home grown, cost effective, inclusive and involve consensus building. The traditional African Structures are a wealth of knowledge of African ethos that is pertinent in the provision of efficacious solutions to the conflicts that have plagued the African Continent. The African principles of dispute handling are consistent with the Centre’s clarion "Peace building from below".

Orientation will be provided for the volunteer to understand the objectives and expectations of the program. The volunteers will be involved in the day-to-day co-ordination of the institution to ensure efficient performance of the organization operation. Project activities include: Counseling victims of conflict violence, Giving legal and civic education to the residents of Nakuru, Organizing peace building workshops and camps in conflict areas, Organizing outreach programs and awareness programs in dispute resolution.

The organization envisions a just and equitable Kenyan society in which young men and women live a full and dignified life. The Mission of the organization is to proactively facilitate a participatory process for young people to assert their roles and visibility in governance and development.

The volunteers will be involved in the day-to-day co-ordination of the institution to ensure efficient performance of the organization operation. Some of the activities are Democracy and Governance, Leadership training and support. The volunteers will have an orientation in the beginning of the project.

ELEPHANT CONSERVATION AND ECOTOURISM PROMOTION
Kwale, Coast province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: The volunteer program aims to support an elephant sanctuary in Coast province. This idyllic setting was the scene of a serious human-animal conflict between the farmers who rely on the land for their sustenance and the elephants who traverse the land and raid the crops. Currently there are 300 community members involved with the project and the daily running of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is a community initiative with the following objectives:
- To reduce the human-elephant conflict in the area
- To ensure that community members who gave away their elephants and land benefit from the project through ecotourism activities
- To conserve and protect the wildlife

The volunteers will support the sanctuary in their different projects:
- Conservation and management of wildlife animals;
- Educating the local people of the importance of conservation and eco-systems;
- Designing information package for tourists and marketing Kenya as a holiday destination;
- Controlling and reducing the human-animal conflict;
- Monitoring of the elephant population.
Volunteer's specific tasks will include fundraising, implementing the strategic plan, marketing, website development, teaching management and accounting, developing and designing lessons and exhibitions, conflict management.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AT FORT JESUS WORLD HERITAGE SITE
Mombasa, Coast province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: Fort Jesus is a Portuguese fort built in Mombasa between 1593 and 1596 and is considered one of the most exceptional and well preserved examples of 16th century Portuguese military fortifications in the world. The site chosen was a coral cliff high over the Mombasa harbor. It was built in the shape of a man as he could be viewed from the air, and was given the name of Jesus. Today the majestic Fort Jesus provides a fantastic introduction to the history of Mombasa and the wars that took place between the Muslim Arabs and the Christian Europeans for control over the Indian Ocean trade. The fort is one of Kenya's most remarkable and highly valued Monuments of all time and in 2011 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The fort has a museum that displays various finds from archaeological excavations at Fort Jesus, Gede, Manda, Ungwana and other sites.

This project is organised together with Fort Jesus National Museum. Upon arrival, the volunteers will receive an orientation and briefing by the project officer. The volunteers will be involved in most aspects of the work of the Museum such as historic preservation, documentation and data collection, educating the local people of the importance of the historic heritage and eco-system, marketing, research.

Malindi, Coast province 1 - 6 months

Volunteer project: Malindi is literally two towns in one - a historic Swahili town dating back to the 12th century and a modern tourist center with resorts, shopping and white sandy beaches. Built in last quarter of the 19th century along the seafront, the charming House of Columns building that houses the Malindi Museum is a double story building with a roof terrace covered in tiles. Located a few metres from the Malindi jetty and fish market, the building is believed to have been built by local traders and acted as a hospital until 1952 and then as the Malindi Fisheries Office. Then it was handed over to the National Museums of Kenya in 1999.
Malindi Museum currently houses a library and a number of exhibitions. Exhibits include wooden grave posts of the Gohu people, information about Vasco de Gama and his arrival in 1498, and a number of different photographs and objects that relate to Malindi’s colonial past.

Volunteer project: This is a farming program, organized in cooperation with several farmers groups in Eastern and Rift Valley province. It aims to educate the farmers living in the area to use organic farming techniques (organic-fertilizer) that will increase the crops' quality and productivity.

The volunteers will be involved in various activities:
- Farming different types of crops, such as Tomatoes, Onions, Blue Gum tree and Amaranth;
- Source or look for markets outside Kenya for the products;
- Organic farming and teaching the local farmers on organic farming concepts;
- Promoting bio-intensive planting, crop diversification and water harvesting;
- Environment conservation;
- Animal husbandry;
- Start to liaise with Fair trade organizations that can assist in marketing the products;
- Collecting information on fair trade regulations and rules, becoming members, clinical services.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Excursion to Mwea (rice) irrigation scheme, Kiajakoma tea plant, Lake Nakuru National park and Lake Victoria. The trips are done during the weekends.

Special requirements: Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as agronomy, horticulture, agriculture, environment and background knowledge of giving extension services to farmers and fair trade concept) will be used accordingly.

Location: Embu is located in the Eastern part of Kenya, approximately 2 hours drive from Nairobi. Public transport is available. The closest hospital is 30 minutes drive. Markets, Post Office, Banks (ATMs), Internet and other social facilities are located in Embu, 30 minutes drive from the project site. This is a cool area, cold at night and with hilly terrain. Nakuru is towards west, 2 and half hours drive from Nairobi.

TRAINING AND REHABILITATION OF DISABLED PEOPLE IN NAIROBI
Nairobi

Volunteer project: The project aims to support the a rehabilitation centre in Nairobi. The centre was started in 1952 by Red Cross society to cater for the young mau mau victims. In 1971 the Government (under Ministry of Social Services) took over the running of the Center to date.

International volunteers will be involved in the training and rehabilitation of disabled people by teaching tailoring and dressmaking, entrepreneurship and computer.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. Saturday and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Visit to the museum, National Archives, Clubs, Giraffe Centre. The visits are done during the weekends.

Special requirements: Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as knowledge of design and tailoring, web design, programming, microfinance, accounting, management and business development) will be used accordingly.

TEACHING MUSIC TO KENYAN YOUTH IN NAIROBI
Nairobi

Volunteer project: Through this project we want to promote music to young people especially idle youths, unemployed and school leavers by giving them hope in music industry. We want to give them opportunity to learn, explore and nurture their talent in singing and playing musical instruments. We hope that once they acquire these skills, the youth can sustain themselves economically or generate income from their knowledge.

The volunteers will be involved in teaching music, music production, participating in organization planning, strategy implementation, evaluation of the music project, assisting in registering students with examination bodies, sourcing for instruments.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning. Saturday and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Visit to the museum, National Archives, Clubs, Giraffe Centre. The visits are done during the weekends.

Special requirements: Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND SPREADING AWARENESS AMONG LOCAL PEOPLE IN MOMBASA
Mombasa, Coast province

Volunteer project: The project is organized together with an environment youth group since 2009. The group is involved in promoting environmental issues. They make a living by collecting garbage from different households. They sensitize the community on issues of waste management and HIV/AIDS. It is a growing organization that needs supports in terms of organizational development and technical expertise.

Volunteers will be involved in fund raising, implementing the strategic plan, marketing, website development, training of trainers in HIV/AIDS issues, teaching management and accounting, developing and designing art lessons and exhibitions.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning. Saturday and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Leisure activities: Weekend excursions to Fort Jesus and local beaches.

Special requirements: Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. AIDS AND POVERTY AWARENESS INITIATIVE IN NAIROBI
Nairobi

Volunteer project: The volunteer project has been supporting a Self Help Group since 2006. It is based in the Kibera slums of Kenya to counteract issues of poverty, environment degradation and reduce HIV/AIDS through Home based care, Economic empowerment and Post test club and justice and equality program. The group has made commendable achievements since its inception.

An orientation session will introduce the volunteers to the objectives and expectations of the program. The volunteers will be involved in counseling, treatment awareness trainings, providing psychological support to people living with HIV/AIDS, management, microfinance.

The volunteers will work 5 hours in the morning. Saturday and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.
