West and Central Africa Intern

Population Services International (PSI) seeks a part-time paid Washington, DC-based intern able to work 20-25 hours/week starting in January to support the West and Central Africa (WCA) Department.  This internship provides an opportunity to work with PSI staff on a variety of projects in international social marketing, international development, and public health. PSI offers flexible working hours and a dynamic, creative, and progressive work environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
The WCA Intern will have a variety of duties and will work on a variety of projects related to supporting PSI’s activities.  Duties will include but are not limited to: 
  • Editing and formatting reports and other project or presentation documentation
  • Assisting in financial reconciliations for invoices and expenses
  • Assisting with travel arrangements including visas and expense report preparation
  • Coordinating the logistics of overseas staff as needed
  • Facilitating regional exchanges
  • Tracking product sales and health impact on a monthly basis
  • Updating monthly financial tracking reports
  • Responding to internal and external requests for information
  • Organizing departmental events
  • French-English translation (if possible)
  • Fulfilling other programmatic, administrative and financial functions as required 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 2 years work or internship experience (some international experience preferred)
  • Excellent organization and administrative skills with special attention to detail
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work independently and on a team in a cooperative, problem-solving capacity
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong writing skills
  • Experience with budgeting or other substantial use of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple tasks based on deadlines
  • Advanced French language skills preferred
  • Interested in international health and development issues preferred
