SUPPORT THE MANAGEMENT BOARDS OF UNESCO PROTECTED SITES IN VIETNAM

Vietnam          2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: Placement on this project can be on one of 8 UNESCO protected sites in Vietnam:
• My Son World Heritage site
• Can Gio Biosphere Reserve
• Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve
• Dong Van Global Karst Plateau Geopark
• Lower U Minh Ha National Park (under Mui Ca Mau Biosphere Reserve)
• Cat Tien National Park (under Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve)
• Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve (under Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve)
• Citadel of the Ho Dynasty

The volunteers will support the staff of the site management board. Volunteers' tasks include: giving English training course to the staff and the local community; conducting research about sustainable tourism development and management, and protection of the tropical forests; writing handbooks, leaflets and guidebooks…

Special requirements: Background/experience in environmental management, heritage management or tourism management is preferred.

Language: English

Duration of the project: 2-12 months

Accommodation: Volunteers will be provided with accommodation at the site. They need to bring a sleeping bag.

Location: Ha Giang Province, Nghe An Province, Quang Nam Province, Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Hoa province, Ca Mau Province, Dong Nai Province, and Quang Ninh Province.

Terminal: depends on the site

Age range: 21 and over

Participation fee: $590 CAD

Extra fee: 7,500,000 VND (about 260 Euro)/month

CULTURAL EXCHANGE AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS FOR COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Vietnam          2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: Volunteers are needed in colleges and universities in different provinces of Vietnam, to support the cultural exchange programs for students and help organizing different events.

The volunteers will mentor students and help them improve their English skills. They will also work together with the local staff and cooperate with humanity and non-profit organizations to organize social activities for students (such as charity/voluntary work in the community, fundraising for those activities, etc).

Special requirements: Volunteers with Bachelor degree in fields of Social Science, Social Administration, Social Planning and Development, international relations, public relations, development studies or equivalent are preferred.

Language: English

Duration of the project: 2-12 months

Accommodation: The college/university will provide accommodation for the volunteers. You will need a sleeping bag. Meals are served at the canteen of the college and vegetarian catering is possible.

Location: Hanoi, Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Ben Tre, Hue, Thai Nguyen, Dong Thap, An Giang.

ECO-TOURISM AND EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS WITH A MINORITY COMMUNITY IN THAI NGUYEN PROVINCE 

Thai Nguyen         2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: This project is in support of the poor and minority people in Thai Hai village in Thai Nguyen province. The volunteers will work on eco-tourism and educational projects for the benefit of the local population.

The volunteers will help disadvantaged children improve their English and computer skills, will teach the children living skills, will organize activities with children, will guide local staff on developing eco-tourism in the area, will manage the website and organize culture exchange activities with the local community.

Language: English

Duration of the project: 2-12 months

Accommodation: Simple accommodation and meals are provided by the villagers. Sleeping bag is needed.

Location: Thai Hai village, Thai Nguyen province

Terminal: Noi Bai International Airport (HAN)

Age range: 18 and over

Participation fee: $590 CAD

LEISURE ACTIVITIES PROGRAM FOR DISABLED CHILDREN IN HAI DUONG WELFARE CENTER

Hai Duong          2 - 12 months

Volunteer project: Hai Duong welfare center was established in March 1982 and has about 1000 mentally and physically disabled and disadvantaged children coming from many parts of Hai Duong province. The center aims to provide compulsory education and vocational training courses to create employment opportunities for the teenagers. The center has a wide variety of courses for children ranging from 6 to 18 years old. For example, children between the ages of 6 to 12 are provided with educational courses, and the older children are able to attend vocational training courses at the center.

Volunteers are expected to organize activities with the children and support the local staff. Volunteers will play games with the children, take care of infant orphans and organize activities such as fun games, group activities, singing, drawing, painting and performing plays. The volunteers will also help the staff to prepare lunch for the children and will learn how to prepare Vietnamese food. Cultural exchange with the local people is also part of the program.
The voluntary work at the center is quite hard and it requires high motivation and patience from volunteers. So volunteers need to be well prepared before starting this project.

The aim of the volunteer project is to encourage the disabled children to integrate into the community and communicate with other people, to help them become more self-confident thanks to the work with volunteers, and to provide fun and relaxed time for the children after classes.

Special requirements: Knowing how to deal with problems of disabled people is an asset as the interaction with the kids can be very difficult. Volunteers need to have a high level of motivation and patience.

Leisure activities: There are famous tourist places near the center so volunteers can discover them at weekends and in the free time. It is also easy to get to Hanoi from Hai Duong by bus.
