Intern- Women Policy Initiatives

The Women Peace and Security Network Africa (WIPSEN-Africa), a Pan-African Women’s Non-Governmental Organization, based in Accra Ghana, with office in Liberia is seeking for highly motivated intern (s) to support its Women’s Policy Initiatives.


Deadline:      January 31, 2014
Location:      Accra, Ghana

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1.        Assist in the coordination of the two initiatives by:
  • Collaborating with partner organizations;
  • Drafting concept notes;
  • Drafting budgets;
  • Contributing to the writing of reports;
  • Contributing to the logistics arrangements (booking of flights, hotels, and transfers; and drafting administrative notes for participants)
2.       Liaise with partners involved in the Policy Initiatives;
3.       Write Policy Brief related to the events;
4.       Contribute to the fundraising efforts for the policy initiatives under the guidance of Programme Team;
5.       Attend local, regional and international events on behalf of WIPSEN-Africa;
6.       Liaise with the admin. Officer to make sure arrangements comply with internal procedures;
7.       Assist in other tasks to be determined by WIPSEN-Africa’s Management Team.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.       A Master of Arts Degree in Peace Studies, Conflict Resolution, International Politics or Gender and Women’s Studies;
2.       A good knowledge of Gender and women’s issues as it relates to policy making and policy implementation;
3.       Familiar with the peace and security issues in the African context;
4.       Knowledge of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security (1325, 1820, 1888, 1889 and 1960), CEDAW and other regional instruments on Gender and Women;
5.       Good facilitation skills and Presentation skills;
6.       Previous experience on Gender is highly desirable;
7.       Fluent in English and good command of French is desirable;
8.       Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; etc.)
9.       Previous experience in West Africa is highly desirable;
10.     Good writing and reporting skills;
11.     Can easily adapt in multicultural environment; and
12.     Work with minimum supervision;

Interns will be responsible of finding their own accommodation.
