Teaching English in Burundi - Cadip

There are 2 volunteer positions for the English teaching program in Burundi. One volunteer will teach at Maramvya Lycee, which is about 10 km north of Bujumbura and the other one will teach at Buterere Lycee, which is on the edge of the city. Both secondary schools, Buterere and Maramvaya, have the same problems: lack of teachers and teachers who are not qualified and need support.

Burundi is using French as its official language and all courses are in French, but English is taught and there is great desire to learn it now as Burundi is part of the East African Community.
The volunteers will also work, together with Burundian volunteers and the local community, on environmental projects in Buterere, helping to keep the area clean.
The volunteers will work for six hours daily, Monday to Friday.

Language: English
Duration of the project: Up to 6 months
Arrival and orientation: Volunteers should arrive one day before the start of the placement, to allow for a one day orientation. Airport pick-up is provided.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay with host families.
Location: Burundi is a beautiful country at the north end of Lake Tanganyika and part of the Great Rift Valley.
Buterere is a suburb on the edge of Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. Most of the people are poor and they suffer a lot from flooding when there are heavy rains, as the suburb is built on low-lying, flat land. Access to the city is quite easy. Buterere is very close to Bujumbura Airport.
Terminal: Bujumbura International Airport
Age range: 18 and over
Participation fee: $590 CAD
Extra fee: 1500 Euro
The extra fee is intended to support the hosting organization who does not have sufficient funds. It is due upon arrival on the project.
