Three-month commitment, ideally three days a week (two days
a week will also be considered)
Progressio is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to
support our Policy and Communications team to raise the profile of our work,
including the Live Below the Line campaign and Progressio’s International
Citizen Service (ICS) programme, and celebrate the ‘action at home’ undertaken
by young adult volunteers who have recently returned from overseas placements.
You will mainly be focussing on researching, writing and pitching stories to
regional/local media in the UK.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in a media/press
role within the charity sector, this is a great opportunity to learn relevant
skills and strengthen your CV.
What sort of tasks will this involve?
Tasks will vary, and may include: creating content for web,
print or radio media outlets; supporting volunteers to engage with social
media; assisting the Communications Officer in producing press releases for
local/regional media, the faith press and national media, particularly on the
Live Below the Line campaign; interviewing ICS Returned Volunteers and partner
organisations, with the aim of writing up and pitching news and/or feature
stories to local/regional press; collating and analysing Progressio coverage in
the media and keeping records up-to-date; researching and identifying publications
and broadcasters that would be suitable to pitch stories to; building
relationships with interested journalists and broadcasters, and occasionally
attending and supporting ICS training/Returned Volunteer events.
Is this volunteer role right for you?
You will receive an induction and support to carry out this
role. Ideally, we are looking for excellent writing skills; a genuine interest
in youth activism and volunteering; enthusiasm and a proactive approach,
including a willingness to speak to people over the telephone; good
organisational and administrative skills; the ability to work both in a team
