Brussels Policy Internship

Deadline: Rolling Application
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Access (accessnow.org) is a young and growing organisation dedicated to defending and extending the digital rights of users at risk around the world. Now we're seeking a policy intern in our Brussels office to work on critical issues of privacy, data protection, and network neutrality in Europe.

About the Organization:
Access is an international human rights organisation that believes the realisation of human rights in the 21st century is increasingly dependent on free and unfettered access to the internet and other forms of technology. Founded in the wake of the 2009 Iranian post-election crackdown, Access has three core areas of work: policy analysis and development, direct technical support for civil society, and public engagement. We have offices in Brussels, New York, Santiago, and Tunis, and work with activists, civil society, and policymakers around the world to build technical capacity and advocate for digital rights.
About the Policy Arm:
The Policy arm provides tech-driven policy guidance to governments, corporations, and civil society with a view to defend and extend the digital rights of users at risk around the world.
About the Internship:
We are looking for a policy intern in the Brussels office who will work primarily on the issues of network neutrality, privacy, and data protection in Europe. The intern will participate as a full member of the Policy Team and will be expected to participate in team meetings, write policy briefs and position papers, edit reports, compile data, prepare advocacy materials for internal and external use, contribute to the blog, and assist in the development and execution of Access’ initiatives in Brussels.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants will be committed, highly motivated individuals with strong academic records and an interest and aptitude for human rights, European policy, technology, and public organising. Relevant experience in the field of ICT, particularly those with a technical background are preferred. Policy interns must be self-starters with proven research and analytical skills, strong writing and editing abilities, and a capacity to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Fluency in French or other European languages is a plus, but not required for this position.
