Action Against Hunger are currently recruiting for interns
to assist with the development and implementation of the Love Food Give
Food campaign across the UK and other year-round food related
fundraising initiatives.

The Love Food Give
Food Unit
Action Against Hunger UK works closely with the UK food
industry as a way of engaging the public and raising funds for our programmes
around the world. The Love Food Give Food campaign is enthusiastically supported
by top chefs, food writers, a multitude of restaurants, bloggers and
food-lovers, all of whom support the campaign to make their stand against
global hunger and raise more life-saving funds for Action Against Hunger.
Objectives of the
Events and Campaigns Intern:
- Play
an active role in the planning, organisation and implementation of one of
the UK’s largest food industry specific fundraising campaigns taking place
in the autumn each year. In 2013 over 50 Michelin starred restaurants
supported the campaign.
- Help
meet ambitious objectives to increase funds raised and increase ACF UK’s
profile among consumer audiences, to include assisting with the
development of a new and exciting consumer-focused fundraising initiative
targeting food-lovers.
- Coordinate
our involvement at a variety of food related events including food
festivals, supper clubs, and our own Love Food Give Food networking
events.
Typical areas of responsibility include (but not limited
to):
- Internet
research, gathering leads, contacts and analysing industry and consumer
trends
- Delivering
the telephone & email recruitment of restaurants for Love Food Give
Food.
- Managing
contacts and income on the database (Raisers Edge) and sending out thank
you letters and certificates.
- Developing
and nurturing relationships with partners and supporters of the campaign,
including providing administrative and logistical support.
- Contacting
suppliers and potential sponsors for equipment, venues, goods and services
at low cost or as donations
- Writing
content for our online communications, including social media and Love
Food Give Food microsite.
- Recruitment
and management of event volunteers
- Coordinating
event logistics and assisting in the running of events
Key competencies required:
- Good
knowledge of MS Office packages including MS Outlook, MS Word and MS
Excel.
- Fluent
English speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills:
confident and professional telephone manner, sound level and experience in
professional written communication
- A
sound level of initiative, creativity and lateral thinking
- A
multi-tasker who is comfortable working independently running own
projects, as well as working well as part of a team
- Good
organisation and time management skills
- The
successful candidate will share the core values of Action Against Hunger
- Flexibility,
as there will be occasional work during non-standard hours (evenings and
weekends, with Time Off In Lieu)
- An
assertive personality with the confidence to make potentially cold
requests and seek information
Other desirable experience / qualifications:
- A
keen interest in the current UK food scene and food trends, and ideally a
strong knowledge of top UK restaurants and key industry figures.
- Undergraduate
degree (BA, BSc) or at least one year of administrative work experience
- An
active social media user
- Experience
in sales and marketing, events or restaurant promotions.
- Experience
in charity fundraising or telemarketing
- Experience
in Raiser’s Edge or other database systems
- Experience
in updating / managing websites
- Knowledge
of design software such as InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop
