Background on ACTED
REACH was born in 2010 as a joint initiative of two INGOs
(IMPACT Initiatives and ACTED) and the United Nations Institute for Training
and Research (UNITAR) Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT).
REACH’s purpose is to promote and facilitate the development of information
products that enhance the humanitarian community’s decision making and planning
capacity for emergency, reconstruction and development contexts, supporting and
working within the framework of the humanitarian reform process.
REACH is an innovative tool that combines the usefulness of
modern information technology, such as web and GIS based mapping, with rapid
and well developed assessment methodologies.
Position profile
To support the REACH team, IMPACT Initiatives is currently
looking for a Liaison and Communication Intern to integrate its main office in
Geneva. S/he will work under the direct supervision and management of the
Operations, Finance and Communication Officer, the REACH Coordinator, and the
IMPACT Executive Director. As this position is in close partnership with ACTED,
her/his working relations will include counterparts in ACTED Paris and country
missions.
The Liaison and Communication Intern will provide support to
various tasks undertaken by IMPACT Initiative’s Geneva office, which include:
developing and updating IMPACT Initiatives’ and REACH’s websites and resource
center, engaging in development/humanitarian secondary data reviews; supporting
the drafting and reviewing of reports and publications (internal and external
documents), including newsletters. The intern will also support the Operations,
Finance and Communication Officer in a number of office administrative,
logistics and filing tasks, including the assistance in the organisation of the
IMPACT expats deployments in the field.
FUNCTIONS
A. Communication tasks
• The Intern will work on the improvement and update of
REACH and IMPACT websites hosted by Wordpress. These activities include:
editing posts and pages about REACH and IMPACT activities, reports, maps,
partnerships, innovations, etc.
• S/he will participate in the visibility of REACH/IMPACT,
keeping a regularly updated look in the social networks and posting news on
REACH Twitter account.
• In collaboration with the IMPACT Operations, Finance and
Communication Officer, the Intern will work on the development of the REACH
digital newsletter.
• S/he will ensure a regular internal communication, taking
an active role during IMPACT internal meetings and their follow up.
B. Research and reporting tasks
The Intern will be engaged in IMPACT Initiatives’ ongoing
research activities, as instructed by the REACH Coordinator and IMPACT
Executive Director. Responsibilities may include: formatting of reports, review
of background documents; liaison and contribution to IMPACT Initiatives’
ongoing field assessments/research; review, consolidation, referral and filing
of existing internal assessments; drafting and editing secondary data reviews.
C. Logistics and administrative tasks
The Intern will contribute to general administrative and
filing duties in the office, including purchases and human resources follow up.
These tasks will include: follow up of representation office’s administrative
and reporting duties; assistance in the organisation of the IMPACT expats
deployments which includes ordering flight tickets, management of office’s
physical and electronic filing system; book-keeping; liaison with relevant
service providers and suppliers; other tasks as requested by the IMPACT
Operations, Finance and Communication Officer, the REACH Coordinator or the
IMPACT Executive Director.
Qualifications
• English spoken and written fluently. Fluent knowledge of
French a distinctive advantage;
• High-ranking Master-level degree from leading university;
• Capacity to work independently (the position may require
some period of working alone in the office) and under pressure;
• Prior exposure to humanitarian and aid context a plus;
• Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook and Excel, Wordpress a must.
Other IT skills as InDesign and Illustrator a plus.
