property (LEAWRLP)
Seat: Internship as Assistant Project manager
COOPI’s start the implementation of the project Access to
Justice as part of it action in women’s land and property rights. This
project aim to ensure understanding of women rights to land and property to
community women as well support them to claim them trough formal and
traditional justice systems. The project objective is to empower women and
communities to fairly resolve conflict around women’s land and property rights
through formal and informal justice systems and prevent and minimize associated
rights violations, especially SGBV and advocate for the passing of and
implementation of the draft National land policy. The project will increase
community women and civil society organisations’ understanding around women’s
rights to land, and their ability to ‘claim’ rights for themselves through
increased understanding and awareness of ‘how to practically use’ relevant
national legal frameworks, and international and regional human rights
instruments. The project will also rely on the development of district based
land-watch networks that will monitor women’s rights to land issues. The
project will also ensure women’s access to justice through the development of a
paralegal network, including support for legal representation in the most
severe cases. Additionally, through the provision of training, the project will
also contribute to develop and inform women, traditional and community leaders,
members of the traditional courts, justice professionals and the police/FSU on
the importance of protecting women’s rights to property for the economic,
social and cultural benefit of their communities. Violations of women’s rights
such as GBV which are closely associated with women’s usage/access and
possession of land and property will also be limited through increased
awareness of the issues.
The project started in April 2013 is implemented by COOPI in
partnership with 2 national organizations and it covers differents regions
(Eastern and center north), including Freetown
