Water Missions International (WMI)
is a Christian engineering ministry. Our
mission is to provide access to safe water and an opportunity to hear the good
news of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ to all those in need. The Lead
Engineer (LE) is key to the success of the Kenya Country Program (Water
Missions International – Kenya, WMI-K).
The person in this position must be a strong Christian and must feel a
clear calling from God and a heartfelt passion for our mission.
Because our mission is
global, urgent, and enormous, the person in this position must have the
temperament and energy to be a leader in an entrepreneurial environment. The person must have the ability and be
willing to fulfill multiple responsibilities.
He or she must not only be comfortable in, but be energized by highly
fluid, rapidly changing work environments.
Under the direction of the Country
Director, the LE is responsible for performing engineering tasks within the
Country Program following established standards and procedures. This position requires that the person
resides near Kitale (or moves near Kitale), where the office is located. This
position requires travel to remote locations within Kenya or surrounding
countries to carry out assessments, inspections or training.
Key Specific
Duties and Responsibilities
·
Provide technical
direction, oversight, review and assistance for technicians, volunteers, and
other engineers.
·
Perform Engineering
tasks including water hydraulic design calculations and development of plans,
specifications, and structural drawings
·
Provide onsite
project management in support of approved projects
·
Conduct field
inspections and site assessments as needed under the direction of the Country
Director
·
Maintain regular
contact with the WMI-K Country Director
·
Ensure all work
is performed in accordance with WMI procedures and standards
Minimum Education and Work Experience
·
Bachelor’s degree
in Engineering – Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical are preferred
·
A minimum of five
years of experience in water engineering
·
Drivers license
·
Advanced skills
with office computer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and drafting programs (AutoCAD/PowerCADD,SolidWorks/ProE)
·
Excellent verbal
and written communications skills (English & Kiswahili)
·
Excellent
analytical skills, process design skills and project planning and management
skills.
