RGF Communications Internship

Regional Growth Fund (RGF) Secretariat works at the forefront of the Government’s growth agenda, liaising with a number of policy teams across Whitehall to join up on communications. The team has close relationships with a number of other government departments, and is based in 1 Victoria St. This is a high profile policy area and the team supports a range of Ministers to ensure that £3 billion will reach the businesses it is intended to support.

This 6 month internship opportunity is to provide communications support for the RGF, under the supervision of a Government Communications specialist.


The role will include digital communications, drafting case studies, briefing and suggestions for Ministerial visits and regional events and media handling to promote the RGF across England. We are also running a PR and Marketing campaign to small businesses which was initiated by the Prime Minister; the post holder will be able to get involved in this work.

We are looking for candidates who can learn quickly, and work at a fast pace in this challenging role to deliver our communications messages to the right audiences through a range of channels. this will involve organising events, writing briefing documents and media articles, drafting tweets and blogs, and taking a proactive approach to understanding what the team and our stakeholders need and meeting those needs quickly and accurately.

Experience with Microsoft products is desired: Outlook, Excel and Word, Knowledge and experience of Government, Parliament and public relations is desirable.

This is a large and complex programme. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of how your role contributes to the team, delivery of the RGF and the wider Government priorities on Growth.

The team works to tight and inflexible deadlines. You will need to show a positive approach to staying focussed on goals that matter and to take responsibility for delivery of expected outcomes on time and to standard.
