The Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) is seeking a
part-time strategic communications intern for the Fall of
2013, to work at the intersection of the
international peacebuilding field in our nation’s capital.
The strategic communications intern will assist
with the overall marketing and communications needs of the organization. This
is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the peacebuilding field from the
inside, with broad exposure to a wide variety of civil society organizations,
government and military partners, and representatives from fields closely
related to peacebuilding. AfP is a membership-based network of more than
seventy organizations and hundreds of professionals devoted to building
sustainable peace and security worldwide. For more information, visit

Summary
The intern's primary responsibility is to assist
AfP staff with creating a variety of outreach materials for policy advocacy,
membership, and fundraising; implementing an organization-wide communications strategy;
and developing communications plans and tools for specific programs and
activities. The internship (15-20 hrs/wk) is unpaid. It will accommodate a
flexible schedule, run from September –
December 2013, and take place in Washington, DC.
Preference will be given to candidates that are able to continue the internship
into the spring of 2014. AfP is willing to work with the candidate’s higher education
institution for course credit, if applicable.

Required
Qualifications: Exceptional writing skills ● Strong computer skills, high
proficiency in Word
and Excel ● Enthusiasm and commitment to the
organization’s mission ● Proactive, independent and team-oriented work ethic ●
Excellent writing skills and attention to detail ● Professional workplace experience
● Ability manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines ● Positive
attitude and an ability to engage with a wide variety of people ● Desired
Qualifications: At least 3 years completed college coursework towards a
Communications or related degree ● Knowledge and familiarity with peacebuilding,
conflict resolution, and/or international affairs ● some experience with
marketing
● Experience using social media tools for
organizational outreach
