Description

FINCA International, one of the world's leading microfinance institutions, provides financial services to more than 750,000 clients through 21 subsidiaries in Africa, Eurasia, Latin America and the Greater Middle East.
FINCA International is currently looking for a Data Analyst Intern to be based in Washington, D.C. The Data Analyst Intern position is housed within the New Business Development department. The DA Intern will take an active role in the following initiatives: analyze client data to determine standard of living, socio-economic status, and demographics; conduct analysis of market research data (e.g. client satisfaction and market trends); coordinate market research activities (presentations to staff, testing of tools, and other activities); update training materials; conduct descriptive and regression analyses, as well as data validation; provide technical and logistical support to FINCA’s New Business Development department.

 
*Note that this is an unpaid internship with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for 10 weeks or more.*

Ideal profile:
- MBA/MA candidate in statistics, economics, international development, or relevant field - experienced BA
candidates (ex: those with coursework experience in microfinance, development, statistics, quantitative
and qualitative research methods, data management & validation, and/or project management) are also encouraged to apply;
- Interest in and knowledge of microfinance, poverty and development issues;
- Adept at synthesizing information and reporting findings;
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis skills;
- Experience with statistical software, particularly SPSS, STATA
- Experience with SQL Server and data warehouse navigation a plus;
- Exceptional research skills with major research projects;
- Business planning experience writing business/marketing plans;
- Consulting and field experience is beneficial;
- Understanding of customer relationship management a plus;
-  Excellent communication skills;
- Self-motivated, able to successfully complete tasks with minimal supervision;
- English required, skill in Spanish, French or Russian desirable.
