Description

  
FINCA International, one of the world's leading microfinance institutions, provides financial services to more than 950,000 clients through 21 wholly owned and operated subsidiaries in Africa, Eurasia, Latin America and the Greater Middle East. FINCA International is currently looking for an Intrusion Detection and Log Monitoring Volunteer, to be based in Washington, DC or Guatemala. The volunteer would ideally begin immediately and last 3-6 months.

The Intrusion Detection and Log Monitoring Volunteer will work with Information Protection and Information Services staff to roll out an integrated intrusion detection and prevention system in 23 countries on multiple continents, and deploy a low-cost, high-value solution optimally-suited to supporting diverse environments. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your professional profile, gain practical experience in a variety of environments, while contributing to a social program positively impacting hundreds of thousands of low-income entrepreneurs around the world.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Research, pilot, and identify viable Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS) solutions
  • Produce a report of available log monitoring technologies mapped against project requirements.
  • Pilot log monitoring and intrusion detection solution in a test environment
  • Plan and document processes for deployment to FINCA subsidiaries in multiple countries
  • Work with FINCA’s Information Services staff (IT) to coordinate implementation and configuration of IDS/IPS and log monitoring sensors in different subsidiaries.
  • Configure automated reporting from remote and centralized systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to multi-task and complete projects by deadline;
  • Interest in and knowledge of IS/IT and information security systems;
  • Excellent communication skills, especially written and editing;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently;
  • International experience is beneficial;
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and under time pressure;
  • Available 24-40 hours per week (minimum of 20 hours per week required), for 3-6 months (preference given to applicants with long-term availability).

Education & Experience             
Current student or recent graduate focusing on information security, information systems or management information sciences, or a related field; advanced degree a plus

Language Skills
Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish or Russian a plus.

Computer Skills                                                     
Proficiency in a full range of MS Office applications (specifically, intermediate or advanced Excel and/or Access proficiency).


KEY DELIVERABLES
Primary deliverables will focus on deployment and configuration of selected hardware/software, and development of automated reporting process for Information Protection and IS Management
