Description

FINCA International, one of the world's leading microfinance institutions, provides financial services to more than 950,000 clients through 21 wholly owned and operated subsidiaries in Africa, Eurasia, Latin America and the Greater Middle East. FINCA International is currently looking for a Global IT Risk Volunteer, to be based in Washington, DC,  New York City, Chicago, or Kampala. The volunteer would ideally begin immediately and last 3-6 months.

The Global IT Risk volunteer will map FINCA Information Services (IS) policy against international standards (ISO2700x and CoBIT). The volunteer will work with IS management from global FINCA subsidiaries to measure compliance with FINCA IS policies, and report on compliance with both FINCA IS policies and international standards.  Finally, the volunteer will consolidate IS audit findings into a tracking tool, documenting planned risk mitigation activities, timeframes for completion, and accountable parties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Measure subsidiary compliance with FINCA IS policies using consistent criteria
  • Produce subsidiaries report showing compliance with each policy, and identifying high-value areas for improvement
  • Document subsidiary plan-of-action, incl. timeframe for completion, and responsible party
  • Produce targeted summary reports for regional and global stakeholders
  • Track risks accepted by subsidiary management
  • Review internal and external audit findings, and identify commonalities across subsidiaries
  • Maintain consolidated list of actions for remediation of assessment and audit findings
  • Other special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Audit or risk management experience;
  • Strong organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to multi-task and complete projects by deadline;
  • Excellent communication skills, especially written and editing;
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis skills;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently;
  • International experience is beneficial;
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and under time pressure;
  • Available 24-40 hours per week (minimum of 20 hours per week required), for 3-6 months (preference given to applicants with long-term availability).

Education & Experience             
College graduate or graduate student focusing on information security, computer science, audit, or a related field; Advanced Degree a plus

Language Skills
Fluency in English required. Competency in Russian, Spanish or French a plus

Computer Skills                                                     
Proficiency in a full range of MS Office applications (specifically, intermediate Excel proficiency);

KEY DELIVERABLES
Primary deliverables will focus on:
  • Delivery of 3+ iterations of subsidiary, regional and global reports during internship
  • Consolidated list of identified security gaps, including audit findings, assessment findings, and areas of non-compliance with FINCA IS policies
  • Consolidated list of remediation activities, including action, timeframe & responsible party
