The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks an undergraduate or graduate student with strong organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills to assist the Human Resources Team for Spring 2013.

NDI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nongovernmental organization that has supported democratic institutions and practices in every region of the world for more than two decades. Since its founding in 1983, NDI and its local partners have worked to establish and strengthen political and civic organizations, safeguard elections, and promote citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.

This experience will expose the intern to several areas of NDI's Human Resources Team, including; Benefits, Employee Relations, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), and Recruiting. Assigned tasks will include:

Benefits

  • Assisting Benefits Specialist in audit of benefits invoices to ensure that all requested changes are processed in a timely manner and reflected on monthly invoices,
  • Assisting in creation, maintenance and auditing of employee benefit files.

Employee Relations

  • Assisting Human Resource Manager with Employee Service Award Program.

HRIS

  • Maintaining current employee files to ensure that they are up to date and accurate,
  • Performing audits of employee files to ensure that they meet Federal and State compliance requirements,
  • Becoming familiar with Lawson HRIS System and assisting in review of data to perform audits upon request.

Recruitment

  • Updating NDI job postings,
  • Maintaining international job description templates on NDI’s internal portal as needed,
  • Conducting initial vetting of candidate resumes for junior-level DC-based positions.

Special projects as assigned.

 Required Experience
  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Human Resources studies;
  • Demonstrated interest in international issues related to democracy assistance;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Ability to work independently and with others in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality;
  • Excellent computer skills.

This is a paid internship. Interns are encouraged to attend workshops, lectures and other staff development events at NDI.
