Internship in the Protection Data Unit

Activity rate: full time
The Protection Data Unit at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) invites interested applicants to apply for a one-year internship. This position will be remunerated. The deadline for applications is 12th July 2013.


The Protection Data Unit has two main objectives: to reinforce the management of the data related to protection and restoring family links activities for the ICRC, and improve the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to help people restore family contact in situations of armed conflict or following a disaster.
The intern’s main tasks will be support to the activities of the Protection Data Unit with special attention to the maintenance and development of the Family Links Website (http://familylinks.icrc.org) and deployment of the new ICRC case management tools.
As a secondary task, the intern will contribute to the study of new tracing possibilities using social media and will help in the analysis and presentation of statistical data.
This position requires a candidate with a good balance of knowledge and experience with the use of web technologies and social media together with a structured mindset in order to support the deployment of very complex ICT projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Family Links website (familylinks.icrc.org) (40 %)
            - Manage the mailbox  familylinks@icrc.org
            - Support unit RFL missing in familylinks.icrc.org in editorial process
            - Contribute to communications and promotion of the site  
            - Support the development of new language versions of the site
            - Support the development of the Family Links Extranet
  • Support the change process that that goes with the deployment of the new ICRC case management tools (30 %)
  • Support new tracing process and statistics analysis (30 %)
            - Contribute to investigations about new tracing process
            - Provide support to the unit in analysis, interpretation and presentation of statistical data

Qualifications required

Mandatory

  • University degree or diploma equivalent to a master’s degree in communication, interactive media, journalism or equivalent experience
  • Very good computer skills (especially with tools for web content development)
  • Excellent written communication skills in English
  • Very good command of French
  • Age between 25 and 35

An asset

  • Experience in the management of multilingual websites using content management systems
  • Knowledge of Spanish or Arabic
  • Professional experience with social media and web editing
  • Experience in statistics analysis
  • Experience in the work with humanitarian organizations or NGO's

General conditions
