Description
The Engineering and Design Integration Center
(2600) is a multi-discipline, product-focused organization that provides
engineering design, components, subsystems, integration, testing, and field
support for nuclear weapons and other national security applications. Examples of these applications include the
development of satellite and other space-flight payloads and testing for high
consequence military programs. The
Center is divided into three main competencies: Advanced Mechanical Systems,
Sensor and Fuse Engineering, and Telemetry and Software Systems.
Job Summary
Performs work as an entry- to mid-level member of
the workforce within a science and engineering environment involving
graduate-level assignments, which may include research, application of project
design and diagnostics, testing and documentation, development and analysis of
technology options, and assembly and troubleshooting.

Duties may include working collaboratively with
technical staff on developmental research, analysis of technology and
engineering options, project design, testing, formulating conclusions, data
collection, and analyzing experimental data.

We are seeking motivated student interns with an
interest and skill in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical
Engineering or Computer Engineering. Candidates must have good communication
skills, agility in adapting to change, and the ability to work successfully in
a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment.
The student will assist Sandia National
Laboratories' Staff Members in observing and/or conducting experiments,
gathering and analyzing data, assembly of hardware, and/or other duties
assigned under the direction of the Staff Member.
Knowledge,
Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of technical principles and
processes.
Understanding of and demonstrated ability to use a
variety of research tools.
Demonstrated oral and written communication
skills.
Demonstrated ability to contribute in a team
environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of project management.
Extensive knowledge of a suite of software,
including Microsoft Office.
Required
The successful candidate must meet the following
Sandia Student Intern Requirements: Official acceptance into an accredited
university's graduate program, registration with the university's official
co-op office, full-time enrollment during the term immediately preceding the
internship period (9 credit hours), a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0, and
the ability to work up to 40 hours per week. U.S. citizenship.
The following skills are required: (1) excellent
verbal, written, and presentation skills; (2) demonstrated ability to team well
with others; (3) ability to obtain a DOE L-level Clearance
Desired
One or more of the following items are desired:
(1) 3.7 cumulative GPA; (2) Graduate participation in an academic research
environment; (3) prior internship experience; (4) pursuing a degree in
Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or
Computer Science.
Security Clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy
(DOE)-granted Q-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a
pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law
enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education
verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a
DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are
subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for
access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position
require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use,
falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other
indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or
