PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  
Mercy Corps is establishing a fund to invest capital into businesses whose success or new business model will provide more inclusive market access to the poor of Egypt.  Additionally, we will invest in start-up IT companies and support companies to ensure the balance in the ecosystem.

ABOUT 5-50-500:
MC Egypt has committed 5 private-sector entrepreneurship ecosystem stakeholders to match MC Egypt with $3,000 each to create the “Egypt Startup Success Story.” The aim of this project is to identify 50 credible, quality start-up success stories to be published in 500 global/local publications (including blogs, magazines, newspapers, and TV) in 5 months. This effort includes hiring a Cairo-based curator to compile the story (interviews, aggregation of news, writing editorial) and the outreach through tech and entrepreneurship publications & blogs both locally (in Arabic) and internationally (in English).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  
become familiar with impact investing and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Egypt and the region
- increase ability to network with bloggers and media in the entrepreneurship, investing, impact investing, IT/Tech, nonprofit sectors
- develop tactics for expanding outreach via social media


OBJECTIVES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The social media/blogging intern is responsible for working with the Cairo-based journalist/curator to aggregate information and stories regarding the 5-50-500 project to publicize via social media in English. He/she will use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and regular blog posts to connect professionals in the global entrepreneurship, impact investing, and IT/Tech sectors and engage them in conversation about the sector and MC Egypt’s / Stakeholders’ activities. The intern will also be responsible for independently conducting research to gather general information about entrepreneurship activities in the region to blog about from resources such as Wamda and other local and regional resources. The main goal of the social media intern is to put MC Egypt and the Egyptian startup and investment (& impact investment and social impact businesses) and other stakeholders on the international map. Proven ability to expand outreach is essential.

DELIVERABLES
  • Daily research and aggregation of regional entrepreneurship activities to be used as blogging material
  • Daily outreach to relevant members of media and blogosphere
  • Minimum of 5 microblog (Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn) posts per day
  • Minimum 2 blog posts per week
  • Timely responses to requests for information from the media

IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:  
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience in blogging and micro-blogging
  • Existing network of bloggers in entrepreneurship sector or ability to grow a network
  • Efficient researching skills and high comfort level with Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with WordPress preferred
  • Fluency in English
  • Self-starting and self-learning
  • Ability to work without heavy supervision and to meet deadlines
