Overview
WRI’s Climate and Energy Program (CEP) seeks a motivated, well-organized, and detail-oriented communications intern to support our climate change and energy policy work. The internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain direct work experience at one of the world’s premier nonprofit environmental organizations. The successful candidate will support CEP activities related to publications management, online engagement, external outreach, internal communications, and general program administration. This is a full-time volunteer internship and is available immediately.
Responsibilities
The intern will work in the following key areas:
  • Updating the CEP publications calendar and tracking/monitoring author progress against publications schedules.
  • Serving as a key point of contact for production and distribution of CEP publications.
  • Supporting the development and distribution of brochures, e-newsletters, and other outreach materials to target audiences.
  • Providing regular updates to CEP and WRI External Relations staff on upcoming communications and outreach opportunities.
  • Supporting online and social media activities including web site updates, blog posts, tweets, and use of analytics.
  • Assisting with events coordination and setup.
  • Providing proofreading and copyediting support as needed.
  • Providing general office and administrative support as needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following key competencies:
  • Undergraduate or graduate-level studies leading toward successful completion of a degree in communications or a related field. Excellent academic record a must.
  • Some relevant office and/or communications work experience highly desirable.
  • Strong writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with online communications practices including blogging and social media. Knowledge of HTML and Google Analytics a plus.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and successfully manage multiple deadlines and competing demands.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • International experience and/or familiarity with climate and energy issues a plus.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. 


Location: Washington, D.C– candidates must be holders of a valid work permit
