Overview
The World Resources Institute (www.wri.org) is seeking an intern to provide research support to our work on improving the operation and governance of protected areas. WRI’s work seeks to ensure that greater access and participation is possible for people to work to protect and manage protected areas according to their zoning and use. More specifically, the work focuses on:
  • determining the best framework for co-management arrangements in protected areas
  • data collection on the different approaches in developing and developed countries (3-4) to reflect best practices for management delegation, rights to use natural resources; co-management arrangements between government entities, local communities, private landowners and the private sector and model agreements
  • Collection of model co-management agreements for different types of PAs and categories of co-management from 4-5 countries
Responsibilities
This will be an unpaid summer+ internship, with flexible start and end dates.

The intern will conduct the following research:

• Collecting co-management agreements, documentation of important provisions

• Analyzing the different types of co-management agreements and best practices through literature reviews
