The Institutions and Governance Program’s Land and Resource Rights Initiative seeks an intern to support data integration for the re-launch of an online educational tool (Focus on Land in Africa) focused on land tenure and natural resource rights supporting underrepresented communities. The intern will integrate country summaries, lesson briefs, documents, and media into the current content management system used for the online tool.  He/she will review and reformat file structures as necessary for the content management system database and assist in building final product webpages.

Focus on Land in Africa, a collaborative project between WRI and Landesa, provides timely information on land tenure and natural resource property rights in formats that are appealing and accessible to government policymakers and a broad spectrum of development practitioners. This is a 3-month unpaid summer internship. The position is located in WRI’s Washington, D.C. office and reports to the Technical Lead for the Focus on Land in Africa project. The internship offers the opportunity to engage with land tenure and natural resource issues within the Africa region.
Responsibilities
The intern’s main areas of responsibility will include approximately:
50% data integration
30% webpage development
10-20% additional activities

Data Integration
Integrate pre-organized materials related to land tenure and natural resource rights into Treeline content management system.
Organize files based on existing rules and guidelines.
Tag files using developed unique identifiers.

Webpage Development
Build webpages using developed Treeline templates using integrated data.
Assist with the development of data visualizations reformatting.

Additional Activities
Additional support activities are on an as needed basis.
Qualifications
Excellent writing and editing skills;
Some knowledge of international development and environmental issues;
Interest in role of online communications;
Strong computer skills;
Attention to detail, good organization skills, and ability to work both in a team and independently;
Ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary setting.

Compensation and Duration:
This is internship is unpaid. Reasonable travel costs associated with the position may be covered.
This position will be based in Washington, DC.
Internship is part-time (20 hours/week).
