Job Summary
In partnership with the Board, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the success of American Consumer Protection Group Inc. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for implementing the Corporation's mission and decisions by developing day-to-day policy and strategy and working with the other corporate officers.
The Chief Executive Officer has the authority to carry on the business in accordance with the policies established by the Board and reports successfulness of programs and strategies to the Board. The Chief Executive Officer serves on the Board of Directors and acts as a liaison between the Board of Directors and the rest of the staff.
Nature and Scope of Position
  1. Chairs the Executive Committee to implement the organizational mission and develop strategic and operational plans.
    1. Develops reports on organizational programs, effectiveness of those programs, and submits the reports to the Board of Directors.
    2. Advise the senior executive staff on matters concerning implementation of Board policy.
    3. Assures compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  1. Serves on the Board of Directors and votes on decisions.
    1. Works with the Board to monitor and evaluate the Corporation's relevance to the community.
    2. Develops reports on programs and informs the Board about certain programs at board meetings.
    3. Works with the Chairman of the Board to set the agenda for meetings based on priorities of the Chief Executive Officer.
    4. Keeps the Board fully informed on the condition of the Corporation including financial position and problems that are present with certain programs.
  1. Identifies trends in the company and works to set off any problems that may occur as the result of changes in the company.
    1. Anticipates situations that may occur in the future.
  1. Manages the day to day operations of the Corporation.
    1. Creates a team environment with the senior executives and the rest of the staff.
    2. Develops and implements procedures for a regular evaluation of programs and staff.
    3. Trains staff for their positions and assists in motivating and inspiring volunteers and staff.
    4. Negotiates professional contracts in accordance with Board action.
    5. Works with the Board to ensure that governance actions are taken effectively.
    6. Assists in whistleblowing and conflict of interest situations.
    7. Recommends volunteers to participate on the Board and committees of the Board.
  1. Oversees the Investigation and Enforcement departments.
    1. Signs off on determinations of the Senior Vice President of Investigations and coordinates work between Investigations and Enforcement.
    2. Signs off on decisions of the Senior Vice President of Enforcement to refrain from publishing material on investigated companies.
    3. Assists the departments by facilitating communication between the departments and other divisions of the Corporation.
  1. Oversees the other senior executives.
    1. Assists in coordinating communications between the executives of the company.
    2. Ensures all senior executives are operating consistent with the Board's policy, and in the best interest of the Corporation.
    3. Evaluates the performance of the senior executives and provides feedback to the Board and individual executives.
Primary Relationships
This position reports to the Board of Directors and chairs the Executive Committee. The position supervises the senior executive staff including directly supervising the Senior Vice Presidents of Investigations and Enforcement.
This position works closely with the public and obtains feedback from the public in order to better serve the needs of the community. The position is involved in major events of the corporation and serves to develop bonds between the community and the Corporation.
Performance Expectations
This is a high stress position with full responsibility for the operations of the company. The position requires the ability to work directly with the Board of Directors while maintaining good relationships with subordinates. This individual is expected to meet all deadlines and keep track of organizational policies.
This individual is required to develop procedures to implement the actions of the Board, , assess the effectiveness of those procedures, and effectively communicate all of this information to other high level executives in the Corporation including the Board of Directors.
This individual is expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards and convey a professional and positive image regarding the organization and the not-for-profit sector. This individual must be capable of dealing with disagreements and controversies.
Qualifications
The position requires a great degree of attention to deadlines and fantastic communication skills. The ability to take in information and translate it into a more effective structure is a primary part of the position. Clarifying decisions and evaluating programs are a significant requirement of the position. The ability to implement rules and clarify goals is important for this position.
The position requires incredible time management skills and the ability to deal with numerous types of business disputes. The ability to develop strong relationships with individuals inside and outside of the Corporation is required and the ability to elicit information is incredibly important.
The position requires the ability to motivate individuals and portray positive aspects of the Corporation and the work the Corporation is involved in. The Chief Executive Officer must be able to convey to donors and the community at large what benefit the organization is providing and adequately articulate this information.
Leadership skills are a key part of the position. This position requires an individual with the ability to motivate others to follow while also accepting evaluations from everyone from general staff to the community at large to the Board of Directors.
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for ensuring everyone feels comfortable in their position and ensuring everyone is adequately contributing to the organization.
Knowledge of human services, finance, oral and written communication, planning and evaluation, and governance are required. Experience in philanthropy and the non-profit industry or community relations are great assets.
