Local Economy Community Engagement Research Intern (Unpaid)

The Sustainable Business Alliance is passionate about providing rich, mutually beneficial experiences for our interns. Our staff works hard to design and monitor internships to ensure this is the case. We are seeking an intern with experience and/or academic focus in socially responsible business, management or marketing to help us research, build, and improve tools to engage the community in socially conscious and local shopping and investing.

This position will help the board, staff and Oakland Grown Card committee research, test, and build tools to engage the community, with particular focus on the Oakland Grown Card – a local gift and rewards card that encourages local purchasing and community engagement. Intern projects will play an instrumental role in determining how to encourage and reward socially conscious and local shopping behaviors.
Tasks
•Complete one major short-term project of one of the following types: research & analysis or product testing & analysis.
•Participate in Oakland Grown card meetings
•Complete various project management and development tasks as needed, including but not limited toresearch, outreach, agenda setting, writing and project materials and note taking.
•Publicize the card program through presentations, tabling at community events and via social media
Skills and Character
•Experience in primary research, secondary research, product design or market analysis •Excellent writing and organizational skills. Detail-oriented •Quickly responds to inquiries and requests •Outgoing and enjoys listening and talking to people •Passionate about building a more equitable local economy •Prioritizes collaboration over competition •Fellow local economy nerds, data nerds, research nerds welcomed!
Work Environment – Supervision & Location
•Work from home. Attend regular meetings with staff, committee and board members.
•Attend and represent the organization at various lively community events, festivals, and forums.
•Frequent one-on-one meetings with supervisor to ensure that interns are getting the support they need and are developing valuable skills and knowledge.
Hours/Schedule Total: 10+ hours per week, minimum of 3 month commitment
Meetings: average of 1-2 hours per week
Project work: 9+ hours per week, based on your availability
