In this program volunteers will get placements in health centers, sub health centers and hospitals. Your work will be in either an urban or rural setting, providing primary health care to locals according to your specialty. Our program places volunteers in different needy places where your help may need more and in return you will also experience something new for your further education.

Volunteers on this program will have the opportunity to carry out basic health checks in health clinics, observe Nepali doctors in hospitals and practice in your specialized field. You will also be involved in health camps organized by the health centers in community schools and near villages. If you are a qualified medical professional then you have the opportunity to work more and directly with Nepali patients check up in OPD unit. As a pre-medical student you will be able to observe and shadow the doctor in all units of the health centers. Nepal could be best place for getting and doing research on public health, women and children health issues. However we welcome all type of medical practitioners to get involve in our program.

The amount of time volunteers spend in Kathmandu will depend upon the length of their placements however all volunteers will start their stay in a guesthouse near the office and will have 2 days training and sightseeing in the centre of the city. Most of the villages are located within one and a half hour's bus ride from Kathmandu's centre and most have a well- developed infrastructure, with water readily available, and reliable roads. After your training is finished you will go to your placement village with our staff member. Accommodation and Food:
Most of the volunteers live with a host family near the school or orphanage, in some placements we have rooms inside orphanage or local hostel. This will give you a good opportunity to learn about all aspects of Nepali life, culture, food and people. Nepali households have very basic facilities compared to households in the west. Many bathrooms have squat toilets and cold running water. You will sleep in a single room and may share with another volunteer depending on your interest. Mattresses are quite hard! Do not expect luxury. You will essentially become a member of the family, and participate in all activities including cooking, washing, working in the fields, and generally caring for the house and family. This is the best way to experience the real life of Nepal. In your home stay you will eat with your host family. Traditional Nepali food is Dal Bhat which is rice, lentil and vegetables, which is eaten at every meal. If you would like to bring extra snack food or Western food to your home stay you should purchase these in nearest town. Eating out at a restaurant normally costs between 80 and 200 rupees ($2-$4).
