Communications Intern

Crisis Group is seeking an intern to support the Communications Department, starting 2 September 2013. The intern will be supervised by the Director of Communications. The intern will provide research and administrative assistance to the New York staff, conduct research on core conflict issues in the regions relevant to Crisis Group’s current programs, prepare media and advocacy materials, attend meetings with/on behalf of Crisis Group staff, and handle correspondence with media outlets, governments, academic institutes, think-tanks, and NGOs.
All internships include an important core of administrative work, including database management, report distribution, and general office support.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in communications, journalism, international relations, or a similar subject
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English
  • Other language proficiency a plus
  • Strong research, writing, and note taking skills
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office, email and internet applications
  • Previous media experience, particularly with broadcast, new media, or social media
  • Knowledge of online video editing programs preferred
  • Self-motivated, flexible and reliable
  • Ability to deal confidently and swiftly with a variety of demanding tasks
  • Must be available 40 hours per week for a period of at least six months
  • Authorization to work in the United States
