Medical Intern Program in Nepal

Our group is willing to provide information regarding best health centers and hospitals placements in Nepal. Please contact us if you are thinking to come to Nepal to do health/medical volunteering program. This program is on-going, you are welcome to arrive in any date to participate in this program.

Generally volunteers will participate in these following health center activities in different health clinics mainly in village locations:-
1) General Health services that includes general OPD, community mental health clinic, community oral health clinic, community TB DOTS services, pharmacy, emergency, minor surgical procedure, clinical laboratory under health micro-insurance scheme.
2) MCH and Rh services: Immunization, Family Planning, Well baby clinic, ANC/PNC, Birthing center, Out reach MCH clinics. 3) Nutrition services: Direct Weighting Scale clinic, routine child growth monitoring, nutrition education, rehabilitation for malnutrition cases, home based malnutrition follow up, production, promotion and marketing of Super Flour. 4) School health activities: Oral health services, Reproductive health education and awareness. 5) Environmental health services. 6) Short-term training for community volunteers, and health professionals. 7) Internship and field placement training for students and professionals.
a) Management of health care delivery system of Nepal. b) Operational approach of cost effective rural health care system. c) Approach of community mobilization for sustainability of rural health care. d) You may also visit to some of government health care provider institutions, and Leprosy hospital.
Location: Various inside Nepal.
Initial Program in Kathmandu: All volunteers arriving in Kathmandu are given between 2 to 3 days of training, language lessons and initiation in Nepali life. After your training is finished you will go to your placement village with staff members. Training will focus on Nepali language lessons; culture and survival tips and travel instruction along with classroom immersion; cultural Introduction; and sightseeing in Kathmandu.
Volunteer Work: Volunteers can be involved in following Health Post based Activities 1. General daily clinic, 2. MCH, 3. Pharmacy, 4. Simple surgeries, 5. Community oral health Clinic, 6. Nutritional Rehabilitation center, 7. Health Post based nutrition follow up, 8. Community medical insurance scheme, 9. TB Clinic
Community Based Activities:- Training and On-the-job Placement Activities Services 1. Maternal And Child Health Care, 2. Family Planning Services, 3. General OPD Services, 4. TB dots clinic, 5. Community mental Health clinic, 6. Community oral Health Clinic, 7. Nutrition, 8. School health program, 9. Community Training, 10. Teaching and learning practice for local and overseas students, 11. Anti smoking program
Health center work- week runs from Sunday - Friday with Saturday being the only day off. You will work from 9am to 3pm daily.
Accommodation and Food: Volunteers will organize their logistic by them-self with our partner organization. Every volunteer stays with a local host family as a member of the family and receives a separate room with basic furniture. The typical Nepalese meal is 'daal, bhaat, tarkaari' (lentil soup, rice and vegetables) also other food like noodles, 'roti' (flat round bread) and different kinds of seasonal fruits and vegetables are eaten. You will be eating the same food as the family eats everyday.
