Program Coordinator

Looking for an adventurous, dynamic and motivated individual who can take on a leadership role of Program Coordinator for RuralHealthCare India projects in Northern India! This is a unique field-based internship opportunity, with the option for applying for fellowship status, with a grass-roots NGO operating in the area of Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment.

RuralHealthCare (RHC: rural health community action, research, outreach and education) is a program initiative that is currently in implementation in the Northern Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. The ultimate aim of the program is "To improve the health, wellbeing, and happiness of EduCARE's beneficiary communities through education on promotional, preventative, and curative health care relevant to their lifestyle and needs."
RHC India works in the areas of:
  • Education and awareness in poor, rural and marginalized communities to provide information on
    • insurance schemes and government programs,
    • subsidized health care opportunities,
    • Ayurveda and alternative medicine,
    • preventative health care and healthy lifestyle,
    • sanitation for the home and community, and
    • nutrition and proper personal care
    • Planning, recruiting and carrying out Health Clinics in rural areas and marginalized/migrant communities
    • The research and development a First Aid Response mechanism and transportation from isolated rural communities to the nearest public hospital in the case of emergency
    • Women's sexual and psychological health, including AIDS education and awareness and a plan for support groups and clines on domestic abuse
    • Children's emotional and psychological health, including group active games and sports, support groups and self-esteem building activities
RuralHealthCare India is an affiliate program of EduCARE India, a registered NGO (1430/2006-05) in Northern India. EduCARE India is an applied research, experiential education and rural sustainable development organization that started in 1994 in rural Punjab, India. The organization has several affiliate programs that both specialize in and integrate with different fields such as education, women's social empowerment, environmental health and conservation, microfinance and economic empowerment and health.
Job Description:
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, planning and documentation of their programs and to ensure they align with the overall mission and objectives of the program and organisation. Additionally, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the continuity of the projects within their programs including the ongoing management of the human resources and documentation.
Group Leadership and Management
  • Intern support and coordination in the field
  • Participation in field activities where necessary
  • Education, training and development for healthcare interns
  • Aiding in the development and implementation of new healthcare sub-projects and initiatives
  • Establishing and maintaining deadlines for all program interns in turning in proper project proposals, weekly reports and other required documentation; organizing and managing a personal database with said documentation for project continuity and intern management
  • Role-modelling for all program and organizational interns and upholding the Code of Conduct to ensure safety, security and cultural sensitivity in the field and home
HR
  • Maintaining the Human resource calendar to ensure that all projects have adequate interns at all times
  • Advertising for specific positions when required
Planning and documentation
Development, maintenance and coordination of:
  • Yearly Mission, objectives and goals
  • Long term plans
  • Quarterly plans
  • Monthly Progress Reports and Project Reviews
  • Weekly schedules
  • Project/Program manuals
  • Calendars (holiday and work)
Communications
Program Coordinators are responsible to manage the communications and meetings within their team. Additionally the Coordinators are responsible to manage the online communications platforms and all communications with external networks or resources.
Internal
  • Monthly workplace individual and project evaluation meetings with each intern
  • Monthly Program Committee meetings with all team members
  • Travel between organizational clusters (geographical group of intern centers where projects are carried out) on a monthly or bi-monthly basis to offer on-ground support and monitor and evaluate project progression
  • Travel between centers in the cluster you are currently residing on a bi-weekly basis to offer on-ground support and monitor and evaluate project progression
  • Online platforms – upload project documents to google docs and share with relevant persons
External

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of development studies, public health, waste and sanitation or other relevant studies/experience
  • Past experience of working in an NGO a plus
  • Past management experience preferred but not required
  • Leadership skills essential
  • Must be willing to work in a team
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
  • A flexible attitude, well-organized and resilience to volatile work and living conditions are key, due to the nature of living and working in a developing country
  • Must be able to demonstrate self-initiative and self-motivation and be able to work without daily direct supervision
There is a one-time legal fee of US$460, payable upon provisional internship offer. This is NOT an application fee.Interns who commit six months and longer will receive incremental living stipends. All interns receive FREE furnished accommodation with internet access, partial month phone credit and in-country work related travel reimbursements.
Those individuals seeking a fellowship opportunity, which is a 2 year position with living stipend, healthcare and travel benefits, please inquire via the application process.
We only accept applicants between the ages of 18 to 35, with an advanced to native level of English speaking and comprehension.
All applicants must hold or be in the process of obtaining a university degree.
