Fundraising Volunteer Intern Position

Street Child is a volunteer-led charity which works to help children get off the streets, back home and into full time education. Street Child provides children still living on the streets with vital food, medical care, clothing and counselling. And we help to provide deprived rural communities with their first-ever basic schools.

Ten years after a brutal civil war, Sierra Leone is one of the poorest places in the world. While this small and beautiful West African country is now at peace, there are still thousands of children living on the streets in Sierra Leone, many of them orphans of poverty and war. Our pledge is to spend 90% of our donations in Sierra Leone, and to keep our office overheads in London as low as possible.As a result of our work since 2008, over 1000 children have been reunited with their families, and over 3000 children are now in school.

Volunteer Intern Role

At Street Child, we are very proud of our volunteer-based approach.  Our small London team provides strategic oversight for the programme work in Sierra Leone, focuses on fundraising and events for the development and expansion of Street Child, and provides administrative and other support for the work in Sierra Leone and beyond.

We are very lucky to have some fantastic volunteers committed to our cause, and we are now looking for an outstanding individual to undertake a fundraising internship for 3-5 days a week at our London office (travel expenses paid, hours flexible)

In return, we expect you will gain invaluable work experience, and the chance to support some of the most vulnerable children in the world. Internships at Street Child are guaranteed to be busy and varied - for example, our latest and most ambitious fundraising initiative involved helped to organise the first ever marathon in Sierra Leone in June, which brought in over £400,000. Equally you will have the opportunity to shape your own experience here according to your skills, goals and knowledge, and we will do our best to support you in your career development.

The ideal candidate/s would have the following:

- Excellent academic credentials;
- Excellent writing and research skills, preferably with experience of researching and/or writing grant applications;
- Prior experience in an office environment, including developing and implementing new administrative systems and processes;
- Experience with Salesforce an advantage;
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team;

- A keen interest in charity and development.

How to Apply

We are looking for candidates who can start asap – end of August/early September ideal. Please send a CV and cover letter, together with your availability to info@street-child.co.uk by 5pm Monday 13th August.
