Internship Position at Gender Advocacy Organization

This internship is with the well-reputed organisation, Women on Farms Project, who focus on feminist rural development in Stellenbosch, situated just outside of Cape Town. Women on Farms Project strives to strengthen the capacity of women who live and work on commercial farms to claim their rights and fulfill their livelihood needs. They do this through socioeconomic rights-based and gender education, advocacy and lobbying, human rights case work, and support for the building of social movements of farm women. Women on Farms Project is currently looking for full or part-time interns to spend at least three months with their team, focusing on Gender Advocacy. Applicants should be interested in the intersection between agriculture, feminism and human rights. Interns with at least an undergraduate degree (or equivalent work experience) and a strong background working with marginalised communities, especially women, would be preferred. Female applicants will take priority, however males with an exceptional understanding of gender issues will also be considered.
Ideal Candidate

Why it's Important

Gender-based human rights abuses and violence is a significant problem in South Africa, and affects a multitude of other sectors such as health, education, and community empowerment. Ultimately, gender inequalities impede the realization of full human potential and drive the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with an interest in female empowerment and equality, law, and human rights issues.

Note: there is a $1,200 USD fee included.
