Sustainable Brands Operations Intern/Volunteer

Part-time 'volunteership' open to a passionate, dedicated individual looking to get experience at the intersection of business and sustainability.

About the Position:
Sustainable Brands puts on various live events throughout the year, and you'll be working directly with the Operations team, who is responsible for the planning and logistics of all of these events:
You will be responsible for supporting the team in various tasks such as:
  • Customer Service; by phone and e-mail
  • Office Management
  • Webpage updates and maintenance for various events, including listings for speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors
  • Sponsor & speaker communication
  • Soliciting and handling in-kind sponsors and donors
  • Assisting in planning and execution of evening social events
  • Volunteer recruitment and management for each live event
  • Recruit and Manage a Sustainability Team for the larger events
  • Recruit, help to hire, and train your own replacement at the conclusion of the contract
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Borderline obsessive attention to detail
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Above average tech savvy
  • Basic HTML knowledge
  • Experience with Event Planning/Management and Customer Service
  • Desired: Multi-media skills such as audio/video editing or graphic design
  • Desired: Adobe Creative Suite
This is an unpaid internship or volunteer opportunity; however we are always looking for qualified individuals to join our team, so the potential for future employment is there for the right candidate.

  1. You are incredibly detail-oriented, great at organizing and planning, and can easily multi-task without getting overwhelmed. You work well under pressure and are willing and able to learn quickly to get things done in a fast-paced work environment.
  2. You are articulate, an effective and professional communicator who can comfortably reach out to and communicate with all ranges of stakeholders, including important customers and sponsors.
  3. You thrive on having ownership over your responsibilities from start to finish without a lot of handholding, and you take pleasure in collaborating with the team when necessary
  4. You are passionate about sustainability playing a lead role in the business space, and of course, you are a fun-loving guy or gal!

Schedule
The position is part-time, about 20-25 hours per week, and is based in our San Francisco office. Telecommuting is available on Fridays, but you will work out of our office for the majority of the time.
What is unique about this position is it's on a revolving schedule. Meaning that you are responsible for your tasks during the timeframe that you are with SB, and you are also responsible for recruiting and hiring the next volunteer to take your place. One of our goals is to coach you into being able to fulfill this piece of the job.
The timeframe is therefore flexible, to fit with the schedule of the right candidate, but minimum commitment is 6 months.
