The GPPAC FoundationThe Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) is a network of civil society conflict prevention and peacebuilding organisations from around the world, who have been working together since 2003 to build a new international consensus on the way in which we approach violent conflict. The global secretariat of GPPAC is based in The Hague, and is formerly known as the European Centre for Conflict Prevention (ECCP). GPPAC calls for a fundamental change of approach towards conflict: a shift from reaction to prevention. For more information about GPPAC see www.gppac.net.
InternshipThe GPPAC Action Learning strategy facilitates the knowledge exchange and development amongst GPPAC members on specified themes within the conflict prevention field. It enables a unique clearing house of civil society generated knowledge, through collecting, sorting and documenting experiences, lessons learned and best practices on conflict prevention. The programme products also feed into GPPAC advocacy and outreach strategies at different levels. An emerging area of work is the production of GPPAC internal updates, which will produce regular information exchange to GPPAC members. GPPAC's added value in relation to the Action Learning strategy particularly lies in:
  • Institutionalised access to, and effective facilitation of information across more than 500 CSOs around the world;
  • Access to a unique pool of expertise generated and tested on the ground, as well as the means to share this expertise broadly within the network and outside partners;
  • Linking theory and policy applications available globally to local practice and vice-versa;
  • Knowledge aggregation, to be used by civil society – members of the global network – to engage with external stakeholders.
The Action Learning programme is structured around four thematic priorities:
  • Preventive Action
  • Human Security
  • Dialogue and Mediation
  • Peace Education
Tasks include:
Thematic Working Groups
  • Supporting the Action Learning programme in communicating with the Dialogue & Mediation, Human Security, Preventive Action and Peace Education Working Group members when necessary;
  • Supporting and enhancing thematic online communities on the Peace Portal;
  • Supporting the programme in producing papers, reports and publications resulting from the Working Groups and programme activities;
  • Supporting the programme with organising Working Group meetings and other events when necessary;
  • Research and scanning the conflict prevention field of practice to support the team in keeping up with thematic developments; writing briefs and updates where relevant.
GPPAC International Steering Group meeting
  • Support the organisation, logistics and preparation of materials for the GPPAC International Steering Group (ISG) meeting, taking place in Accra, Ghana in November 2013.
GPPAC internal update
  • Support the compiling and presentation of information for the GPPAC Update to be sent once every two weeks. The newsletter will provide GPPAC members with internal and external updates, will serve as a place to share members' own news and will include information about relevant resources and opportunities.
Requirements
  • Relevant educational background (university level), preferably in peace and conflict studies or related field;
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to multitask and work to deadlines;
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills;
