Location: US-DC-Washington
Type: Intern (non-paid)
Program: EMBARQ
Overview: |
EMBARQ,
the center for sustainable transport at the World Resources Institute,
is seeking a Development Intern to support strategies that will build
fund development capacity and operational efficiencies across its global
network. At the end of the term, the intern will have not only new
skills and experience, but also credit for helping produce a tangible
portfolio of tools and resources that will advance EMBARQ’s global
strategy.
The Cause:
Transportation is at the intersection of human development and the
environment. The demand for passenger and freight transport is expected
to double between 2005 and 2020. The consequences--increased congestion,
pollution, road fatalities, negative health impacts, energy consumption
and greenhouse gas emissions--demand attention now. That’s where EMBARQ
comes in.
The EMBARQ global network
catalyzes environmentally and financially sustainable transport
solutions to improve quality of life in cities. Since 2002, the network
has expanded to Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Turkey and the Andean
Region. EMBARQ’s global strategy aims to achieve the following impacts
by 2016: over 16,000 lives saved, 6.7 million tons of CO2
emissions avoided, 11.8 billion transport trips served, 3.1 billion
hours of travel time saved, and $6.2 billion in investments leveraged.
The position:
The rapid expansion and EMBARQ’s bold global strategy is requiring new
and streamlined fund development systems that will support the
culturally and geographically diverse offices, and a target fundraising
goal of $20 million annually by 2016. The intern will play a vital role
in advancing this objective.
The position will
interact with offices in 6 countries, and with multiple departments at
the global office. It will be a unique hands-on experience that will
also create immediate impact for the organization. The position reports
to the EMBARQ Global Development Director and is located at WRI’s
headquarters in Washington, DC. This is a part-time internship with a
small stipend, flexible start and end dates, ideal start in March 2013.
