GHG Protocol Tools and Data Research Intern

Overview:
WRI seeks a highly organized and motivated intern to work with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol team to team to improve and create a variety of GHG emissions calculation tools and data sources. The GHG Protocol is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. It provides the accounting framework for nearly every GHG standard and program in the world - from the International Standards Organization to The Climate Registry - as well as hundreds of GHG inventories prepared by individual companies. This project supports the implementation of the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, Supply Chain Standard, and Product Life Cycle Standard by companies and organizations worldwide by providing credible and user-friendly data and calculation services.

This is a full-time internship for Summer 2013.   This internship is paid, with the opportunity for an extension beyond the summer.  The rate of pay will depend on experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Research GHG emission factor databases to provide default data for a number of scope 3 emission categories, including but not limited to waste treatment in operations and fuel and energy related activities
  • Draft methodology summaries of cited emission factors
  • Edit and update existing calculation Guidance documents
  • Assist in answering FAQs on calculation tools
  • Work with Communications Coordinator to integrate calculation resources onto web platform
  • Support development of communications strategy around tools uptake
Qualifications:
  • Ideal candidate will have obtained or is in the process of obtaining a masters degree in engineering, environmental management, mathematics, physics, computer science, or other related fields.  Highly qualified undergraduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in greenhouse gas accounting and familiarity with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards
  • Programming experience in Excel
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Experience working with companies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English
  • Ability to work well in a team and juggle multiple priorities
