Business Cycles in Asia


Summary of Job Description
Prepare a paper examining behavior of business cycles in Asia. The paper is expected to expand the research done on business cycles trends in the region. Among the issues to be examined are the synchronization of business cycles, determinants of business cycles and models for forecasting business cycles.

Expected Outcomes

• Prepare literature review on business cycles in Asia.
• Identify econometric technique to examine behavior of business cycles.
• Compile data and estimate model.
• Present the report to OREI and other interested ADB staff.
• Prepare and submit a final report.

Educational Requirements:

Candidates must:

• be enrolled in a PhD in Economics program at a school in one of the ADB member countries, both prior to and after the internship assignment.
• be engaged in academic study in a field directly related to ADB's work.

Relevant Experience And Other Requirements:

• Have written empirical economics paper.
• Knowledge of statistical software.

Immediate Reporting Relationships / Other Information:

• Position reports to assigned Professional Staff Supervisor.
• Candidates must be a national of one of ADB’s member countries.
• Past interns are ineligible to apply in subsequent years.
• Close relatives of ADB personnel are ineligible to apply but ADB spouses may apply if the eligibility requirements are met.
• Internship duration is 8 weeks.
• Assignment is from July to September 2013.
