Job Purpose:

Internship Topic
Review the Development of Green Urbanization in Asia
Summary of Job Description
Review the existing development of green urbanization in Asia including urban planning, transport, energy consumption, and urban agriculture to identify (i) how and to what level the green urbanization has been applied and; (ii) key issues of the hurdles for green city development.

Expected Outcomes

The intern is expected to do a desk review on green urbanization in Asia. This study will: (i) review the process of green urbanization including urban planning, transport, energy consumption, and urban agriculture; (ii) outline any key elements in the green urbanization; (iii) review experience of green urban development in ADB financed projects to identify lessons learned, and good practices; (iv) carry out telephone interviews with ADB financed water project companies and EA/PMO to see their opinions on the green city development; and (vi) draft recommendations for ADB on speeding up the green urbanization in DMCs.
Additionally, the intern is expected to: (i) present a report to RSDD and interested ADB staff; and (ii) submit a final report at the end of the internship.

Educational Requirements:

Candidates must:
  • be enrolled in a Masters or PhD program, at a school in one of the ADB member countries, both prior to and after the internship assignment.
  • be engaged in academic study in a field directly related to ADB's work.

Relevant Experience And Other Requirements:

  • Preferred area of experience: urban planning, water management, and environmental engineering.
  • Speaking and writing fluent English, good at communication.

Other Information
  • Position reports to assigned Professional Staff Supervisor.
  • Candidates must be a national of one of ADB’s member countries.
  • Past interns are ineligible to apply in subsequent years.
  • Close relatives of ADB personnel are ineligible to apply but ADB spouses may apply if the eligibility requirements are met.
  • Internship duration is 8 weeks.
  • Assignment is from June to August 2013.
