NREL's Education Programs seek to develop a capable and diverse workforce for the laboratory, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and the nation through mentored research internships and fellowships for undergraduate students and graduate students.

Undergraduate Internships

DOE's Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) Program

The SULI program is the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science's premier undergraduate education and research program. The program is designed to provide undergraduate students with educational training and research experiences to strengthen their knowledge and skills and deepen their commitment to pursue careers in science and technology.

Community College Institute (CCI) of Science and Technology

NREL participates in the national CCI for Science and Technology, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science and the American Association of Community Colleges. This collaborative initiative is designed to provide educational training and research experience at selected DOE laboratories. CCI offers community college students technician experience while opening doors to education at 4-year colleges and universities.

Graduate Fellowships

Graduate Fellowship Program

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has established the DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship Program. This program supports outstanding students to pursue graduate training in basic research in areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences relevant to the Office of Science and to encourage the development of the next generation scientific and technical talent in the United States.
